Storage is a constant battle for many automotive enthusiasts. Perhaps you need space for one or two cars and have to utilize a friend’s unused garage parking space. Or, you might pay through the nose to have a stable parking situation at a secured lot. Whatever your situation is, there’s no guarantee your buddy won’t want his garage back or that a landlord will increase prices to an untenable level. So, that leaves you in situations like the seller of this 1992 Pontiac Firebird, who claims he has lost storage for his V8-powered coupe and now needs to sell it. It’s equipped with an unusual factory body kit and is listed here on craigslist for $4,500.

Thanks to Barn Finds reader Mitchell G. for the tip. So, the seller refers to the cosmetic add-ons – in this case, the lower valence under the rear bumper, the side skirts, and the splitters underneath the front bumper – as a “Special Accessory”, or S/A package. I cannot find much information about this kit, but the scarce info I’ve been able to pull together indicates that it was perhaps a stopgap measure offered between a base model and a Formula package car. I’m not even sure this is completely accurate but that’s my best guess. The pieces themselves are supposedly near impossible to find and I can’t recall ever seeing them on another Firebird.

Do they add much value? Well, that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The prices themselves aren’t the best looking aero enhancements we’ve ever seen, and they undoubtedly have little impact on performance. The automatic transmission will further limit this Firebird’s potential in a straight line, even if equipped with a strong 305 V8. The seller notes that it runs well and benefits from a recent brake job, battery, and replacement power window motors. There are no Recaros inside the cockpit which were an option in some trim levels, and the seats in the car currently show some warping on the piping.

Mileage is said to be over 131,000, so it’s been driven. That’s a value killer for some collectors; others, like me, consider it a sign of a healthy car that can continue being driven without too much apprehension. The Pontiac is also a T-top car, which will make it easier to hear the sounds of the 305. The $4,500 asking price seems more than fair, and the fact that it hasn’t sold is somewhat indicative of what I’ve seen lately with good cars taking longer to sell. Is there still some hesitation in the marketplace to take on potentially risky projects at the moment? Or is it just a slow time of year when people are busy squeezing in a final vacation?

Wild to see and air cleaner like that on a ‘92!
305 TBI , bummer
The lower body trim was the same “ground effects” trim that was used on the Trans Am in 1991-1992. It was available on the base Firebird as part of the “Sport Appearance Package,” and it’s not particularly rare.
Or desirable…unless it is on a trans am. Seeing a firebird with this body package is the fastest way to determine it is not worth a second look…unless you want to ls swap and convert into a trans am.
The front seats are out of a Camaro. Fairly cheap price for something that could just be a fun run around car with most parts still easily available.
I am a Firebird over Camaro guy, but the 91-92 front end and aero skirts were just not the best look in my opinion. The nose looks enlongated and cartoonish, and the side treatment, while it might do a decent job of channeling air, also looks like an odd, afterthought tack on. I might get a Gen 3 Firebird one day, but it won’t be a 91-92.
