Low Mile Luxury Coupe: 1967 Dodge Monaco 500

Back in the sixties, there were several high-end luxury cars available in the marketplace for buyers to choose from, with the Dodge Monaco offering sleek styling on the outside plus plenty of comfort inside.  One advantage of the 1967 Dodge Monaco 500, such as this one here on Craigslist, is that it came standard with a big-block engine, so there was more than enough power to move an automobile weighing more than two tons around effortlessly.  This one is described as a mostly original example, and it’s said to have been driven just over 50,000 miles.  It’s priced at $17,000 and located in Cookeville, Tennessee, about halfway between Nashville and Knoxville.  We’d like to thank reader Barney for his excellent Mopar tip here!

The seller tells us he’s owned this Dodge for just over two years and put only a few hundred miles on it.  Apparently, he has other toys to play with and hates to see this one just sitting, so the decision has been made to get this Monaco 500 into the hands of someone who will enjoy getting behind the wheel.  There’s no word on whether this one has ever had any bodywork or a respray, but it still presents well overall, with the Medium Copper Poly paint retaining a strong glossy luster.  The panels all appear solid, with the only obvious imperfection being a couple of minor dents on the passenger’s quarter.

Under the hood is the entry-level engine for the ’67 Monaco 500, but Dodge got it right here by including a 383 with a 4-barrel as the base powerplant, offering drivers a satisfying 325 horsepower.  The big block has also received a set of TTI headers, and an aluminum radiator has also been added.  Some dress-up items have also been installed, including polished Mopar valve covers and an aftermarket air cleaner, so everything in the bay is looking sweet.  The seller also mentions that the automatic transmission has been rebuilt, so hopefully this one is in fine mechanical shape.

Although not quite perfect, the interior is still in nice condition for the most part, with the front buckets probably showing the most wear among the inside components.  Thankfully, the owner posted a couple of photos from underneath, which seem to confirm that the platform also remains strong and solid.  Chrysler B-Bodies and E-Bodies get lots of attention nowadays, and rightfully so, but it’s fun to run across an occasional C-Body that still looks as good as this 1967 Dodge Monaco 500.  Any thoughts to contribute on this one?

What a nice looking Monaco. Inside and out, and under too. The 2 door hardtop Chrysler lineup in the mid 60’s is a very handsome design ( they all are). Love the buckets and console too. Nice color too. Thanks Mike. I enjoyed your write up!!!

Glad you like this one! It’s less than a couple of hours away from here, so hopefully it’ll show up at a car show nearby at some point.

Fun fact, only Canada got the Monaco & Monaco 500 convertibles.
The US had only the Polara & Polara 500 convertibles.
The latter of which I had in metallic blue in 1978.
I regretted ever giving that car away.
