Low Mileage? 1956 Chevrolet 210

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Purchased 8 years ago, the current seller thinks he bought this 210 coupe from the original owner who swore that the 38,738 mileage was absolutely accurate. While I have seen worse off 210’s, this car isn’t too shabby, but is certainly going to need work. After the rise of the hot rod builds in the 70’s and 80’s I still find it amazing that there are 150/210/Bel Air’s out there that haven’t been chopped up and modified. This potentially low mileage coupe is bid up to $3,077.00, but who knows what it may fly up to with the remaining days of the auction. Check out this 210 here on eBay out of Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Obviously left sitting for quite a while, this 210 does retain an inline 6 engine and a 3 speed manual great box. The drive-train is not operational, and its condition is described only as non-op. There are no interior photos, but the seller did show the odometer reading.

The body doesn’t look too shabby from the driver side, but the passenger side has a lot more going on in the rot department. First off, the driver side is quite reasonable with some rot to be found on the front edge of the wheel arch, and into the rear portion of the fender. Beyond that, the driver side appears very reasonable. On the other hand, the passenger side has rot along the trim line on the quarter, and into the lower portion of the fender. You may have noticed, but both front fenders are spray painted, and appear to not be original to the car. Perhaps they are reproduction units someone spray bombed to make the car look complete? All in all, this Chevy is a great start to the 150/210/Bel Air project of your dreams. What path would you take with this Chevy? Restore or hot rod?

On a car like this that needs almost everything replaced or rebuilt low mileage doesn’t mean a thing for the car.

Was there really a two tone orange and white combination in 1956? I don’t remember seeing one. They say there are two signs of old age, First one is lose of memory and the second is … um.. hang on umm… I can’t remember what the second one is.

Is there a reason why Barn Finds continuously promotes obvious fraudulent mileage?

      Can you factually disprove it?

Yes, a person could, given the right pictures. Seems those must have been lost in the e-mail.

I don’t think BF promotes when they feature a car with a questionable mileage claim and let the readers decide if they agree. I’ve learned from the other readers’ comments about why or why not the mileage may be legitimate so I still want to see listings like this.

I read this a couple of times to try and see where it is being promoted. Sorry but I don’t see it, he is just repeating what is in the add. Whether or not we agree with this statement doesnt matter to me as I am only interested in seeing the car.

I love the 56s over the 55 & 57 but this one needs too much work.

The 56 Chevy 150 & 210 is my favorite of the tri-five cars, followed by the 55. I never cared for the 57 model. No pics or mention of the interior, probably means little to none of it is there. Hopefully the reserve is sensible.

I’m not sure about the orange paint. My choice would be black & white in the Black Widow style. Drop in a Ram Jet 350 crate engine, 4l60 transmission, Vintage Air, & cruise it.

Left outside in Pa. these cars could rot into the ground. When I was in H.S. (’74-’76) I worked in gas station, an old lady customer had a ’63 Biscayne with 11,000 miles on it, interior was like new but it was full of rot from just sitting. And this was kept in an open garage. Pa. winters were brutal on these old cars even when they weren’t that old.

Fraudulent mileage? The car dealership that I worked for had a high school kid that could roll back the mileage on trade-ins like no other. One day, the service dept parked a customer’s car where the trade-ins were parked for sevice.

When the lady went to pick up her car, it had 33,000 miles less on it than when she brought it in that morning.

She was really happy with her new Charger SE with the 383 mag motor in it. The car she ‘traded’ in was a four cylinder chebby II.

I remember the late ’50’s cars. 3-4 winters and the headlights were falling out. A new fangled battery drill could run the mileage back.

Parked in 1976 so roughly ~1,900 miles/year for 20 years to get to 38,000.

    138,000 miles would be 6,900/year.

The new owner will lose a lot of sleep restoring or making a rod out of this rust bucket.

Could what we perceive as orange and white actually be the red of the tri-five Chevies? I’ve been surprised at shows when looking at restored cars that the red had much more orange in it than, say, a fire engine red. Given enough years outside I’m sure this orange car is actually white over red. Looks like the whole front doghouse has been repainted and, perhaps, replaced due to a long ago collision.

Well, if it’s not running….. Not $3k. Too much work. Yet, it is a ’56 Chevy 2dr. But, that doesn’t put it over $800.00. Not from this fella.
