Low Mileage Defender: 1983 Land Rover One Ten

1983 Land Rover Front Corner

When Land Rover released the 110 or Defender, as it would later be called, in 1983 it looked nearly identical to the old Series III and it was built to take just as much of a beating. What set the 110 apart from the Series III was its modernized mechanicals and interior. This low mileage 1983 Land Rover 110 Country is currently in the U.K., but the price of the car includes the shipping to New York or Baltimore. Land Rover didn’t import 110s to our shores until ’87, so this could be a great chance to own a rare SUV this side of the pond. This 110 can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $8,250 and an unmet reserve.

1983 Land Rover Interior

This 110 Country is in immaculate condition inside and out. The interior looks almost like new and still has all of its original Country model trim. The Brushwood cloth on the seats looks great and has not tears or holes. These trucks can haul a lot of equipment and people; it even has seat belts for 12. The outside looks almost as good as the inside. The original Arizona Tan paint is in great shape, with no major chips or scratches that we can see.

1983 Land Rover Rear Corner

The 110 is a very rugged vehicle and with a V8, heavy duty coil spring suspension, and beefy 4 wheel drive system, this thing can go just about anywhere. We’ve never imported a car before and we aren’t sure how much hassle or cost would be involved, but we think this truck would easily be worth it.

Buyer will probably have to pay some port fees, customs fees and taxes, but nothing too extreme. & a first time importer might undergo a little more scrutiny by Customs to safeguard our ports, bit this should only result in a possible added delay of a few days. (I went thru this when I imported an old HealeyAbbott from Israel…). If the seller uses a “roll on – roll off” boat these hassles & costs will be minimized. (I used a container because my Abbott was partially disassembled & I didn’t want any of the parts to “walk away” during the trip.). Check with a local US shipper at the port you are using to get a better estimate of expected costs on this end. ALSO, if buyer is in the south suggest that you check with seller to see if a southern port is an option. I used Savannah & there was no additional fee. )…P.S. LOVE these old Rovers! This one looks very nice! But might be worth asking if the bulkhead, floors, and frame have any rust. (the body panels are aluminum, so little fear there when it looks this well cared for.):-)
