It’s not exactly uncommon for a classic estate wagon like this 1996 Buick Roadmaster to show up on Barn Finds, but this Buick Roadmaster wears a color combo we don’t see as often with low mileage that’s listed as being a mere 51,500 from new. The Buick is equipped with the venerable LT1 V8 engine and an interior that remains in excellent condition. The rear-facing third row is a nice bonus, and the Roadmaster comes with a full leather interior and powered front seats. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Pat L. for the find, and check it out here on craigslist near Ventura, California, for $12,900.
That’s a lot of scratch for a used Roadmaster of this vintage, even a nice one. Still, the market seems to be pretty strong for these classic cruisers, with truly top shelf examples easily surpassing the number seen here. This one shows signs of being loved or at least stored indoors, with wood paneling that shows no major signs of fading and chrome that all presents quite well. The Roadmaster rides on its original wheels and the seller notes that new tires have been installed. With the roof rack and rear wiper, the Roadmaster looks even more road- and adventure-ready despite its non-sporting credentials.
Of course, adventure-ready is a subjective opinion, and I simply mean that you can easily load up a Roadmaster with roof racks, trailers, cargo baskets and more to see the world in a truly charismatic wagon. Despite being a California resident, the dash shows no signs of cracking, and the steering wheel exhibits only modest wear from use. The carpets look quite clean, and the listing photos show that the leather seating surfaces remain in great shape with nominal signs of wear, and the rear-facing jump seat looks un-used. The navy blue color of the leather likely hides some of the more obvious defects.
The rear seats fold flat, along with the middle bench, to create a truly cavernous storage compartment, showcasing the range of talents these classic estate wagons bring to the table. The seller notes this is the last year of the Roadmaster, and those final production models are usually the ones to buy due to having most of the bugs worked out. The tough thing with a Roadmaster like this is you have to be absolutely committed to buying a high-grade example, because there are plenty of beaters out there for far less. Would you pay more for one in condition like this or wait for a cheaper, but rougher-around-the-edges example?
Hello Jeff, I like the Harley Davidson, but it has to go to Europe (Holland). Can you tell me what the transport costs are today by schip? Many greetings from Zwolle(the Netherlands) Henri Vos.
Jay Leno just had Dax Shepard on his show (watch on YouTube), where Dax had a resto-modded one of these. Pretty cool cruiser.
I subscribe to Jay Leno’s youtube site and missed that. I went to youtube and searched and couldn’t find it. I am really interested in seeing it if you can point me toward it I would really appreciate it.
Thanks

Not hard to find. Just put some basic search terms of what you are looking for in the box at the top of the page and hit Return – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJ7M5mM7BiU
I like the color combo, and these make great haulers, but I don’t see the factory tow hitch here. Too bad, nice car, asking price seems a bit over the top.
But as my dad said, if you dont ask, the answer is always no!
…you might want to see a doctor about this affliction.
Rspcharger and BTG88,
Thanks for the link and BTG88 I assure you I had searched Jay’s garage listing with Dax Shepard and roadmaster to no avail.
Thanks again it was a great video.
Jimmy,
Try Jay Leo’s Garage on CNBC. It’s not from JL regular YouTube channel. I just watched it the other night
Thanks, I saw it on the link sent by Rspcharger.
That was a great race.
