This 1983 Jeep Scrambler CJ8 is in incredible shape! At first glance, it looks like it has gone through a full restoration. The ad states that it has only had two owners and that the odometer shows 62,000 original miles. It can be found here on eBay with an asking price of $21,500. Located in Norman, Oklahoma, the Jeep appears to have spent its life in a fairly dry climate.
The engine is a 258 cubic inch straight six mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The ad doesn’t say how it runs, but assuming it has been taken care of, it probably has a lot of life left in it. These straight sixes run for a long time and have the great torque that is well suited for Jeep-type activities.
The interior is in amazing condition. The seller is smart to include several photos with the floor mats removed. You can see the floor pan is in remarkable shape. Again, it almost looks too good to be true. The ad does state that “The paint appears to be original” which may be an indication that it isn’t.
This is a great looking Scrambler and seems like it would be a ton of fun. It is nice enough to show, but not so nice that it can’t be driven. We’d love to know if you think this Jeep is original or has been restored (in some form). What do you think? Is it too good to be true?
Florida tags, not too dry of climate in Florida.
Those are Georgia tags.
Would seem to be a bargain, watched a buddy sell his at Russo Steele in 2016 for 35k.Simalar shape ,yellow 27,000 miles.I see lesser Scramblers often at 30.
Such a great looking trucklet!
Everything about their proportions is just right, especially when combined with mildly oversized tires.
If these things drove or handled worth a dang I’d love to have one instead of the K5’s.
Nice Scrambler. While it appears pretty original, it has had at least a moderate makeover. Most notable is the passenger side floor pan where it was cut and a patch was welded. Lots of other little things. None the less, great looking vehicle.
I have a 1982 Scrambler and love love love it. It works well on and off-road. If the carb gives you problems, Mopar as well as Howell each make a fuel-injection kit for it.
GLTTS.
only 1 to have in my mind.
Hasa soft top…I’d like a full hrd top as well,
(would put the roll bar into the frame as this 1 looks OK and therefore is a danger as one may drive it in rough conditions and get injured thinkin it’s reliable during a flip).
Look at the rust on the power steering pump. Call me a bit suspicious that this is original.
Seems like a lot of miles with no signs of rock chips on the front end.
It’s a nice Scrambler. Not as original as the add states. After market wheels, chromed grill, not factory air cleaner, radio missing, and a big square patch has been welded into the passenger floor board (since the paint matches there I suspect it has been painted at least once). Just a few of the things noticeable at first glance of the pictures. It is a good looking vehicle though.
I had a cj7 when these came out and thought the scrambler was the ugliest think ever made. 20 something years later Now I think they look kinda cool haha.
Would live to have it.
I’ve had many jeeps and have loved them all!
Jeeps can look great! At the same time, frame rails can be shot! Where are under body photos?!
Looks like the top isn’t original, but this is a rare CJ-8. Soft top hard doors ended that year, I have an 83 also. That combo had highest production numbers in 81, slowly dwindled down to them running out of some parts by 83. I had spoken to a line supervisor @ the Toledo plant, learned a lot. Mine has numerous factory changes.
Very nice piece. I hope by signing up I can post mine.
