Low-Mileage Survivor: 1986 Toyota 4X4 Pickup

Who remembers the Toyota pickups of the mid-1980’s? Featuring nearly bulletproof drivetrains, they weren’t the fastest or most comfortable modes of transportation but they were small enough to get down overgrown roads to quiet lakes and would climb just about anything in their way. This specific truck is a 1986 4×4 and is said to have been stored in a barn for 35 years.  Showing only 44,000 miles on the odometer, it still has plenty of life left. The truck is advertised here on Hemmings and is up for auction at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas. It is lot number 61 which will be featured on Thursday, September 27th at no reserve.

This truck is powered by a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder 22R engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. It shows super-clean and seems true to the mileage. It also comes loaded with power steering, air conditioning, and a tilt steering wheel.

There is only one photo of the interior, but it looks pretty nice.  Along with the tilt steering wheel and A.C., it features a bench seat with flip-down armrest and nice door panels.

This looks like a quality survivor! If the truck is as good as described, I wouldn’t be surprised if it sets a record for a stock Toyota truck. What do you think? How high will the bidding go?

Had this very same spec’d truck. Same year, same gear, just with a red exterior. Damned thing was indestructible. Replaced it with a new 2002 Tacoma, only because the wife got tired of me driving an old truck with an admittedly rusty bed. My plan was to flatbed it, but she sold it first for 200 bucks. The guy that bought it DID flatbed it, and 16 years later, it’s STILL out there pulling stumps and hauling beer. Great freakin’ trucks. Yeah, they rust, but you cannot break the suckers.

Great trucks. Very capable haulers and off roaders. And of course, their ability to rust in even unthinkable ways was epic. I’m surprised to see one so clean

Sure that most people have seen the Top Gear show where they do unthinkable things to a Toyota truck and it survives.

If it had a solid front axle would be perfect!

I have personally seen this truck and it is the most original pristine Toyota 4×4 I have ever set eyes on for this vintage. This is one beautiful truck and I think it will do very impressive at Barrett Jackson. I am going to the auction myself as well and am very curious to see this pass through the auction. Depending on what happens I sure would like to bring this home with me. This is definitely the holy grail. Just doesn’t get any nicer than this one if you want original and not messed around with. She’s mint

Bought one like this new and drove it for close to twenty years the bed rusted out and i picked up a rust free two wheel drive bed. It was a stripper but had the important options which are power steering and A/C. Great truck would love to have this one!

    $55k was for a 1983 Toyota 4×4

The 44k mile barn find sold for just under $21k.

You had to have seen them in person
It’s all about what the market will bear and what some one is willing to pay.
