Florida is a popular state to own a cool muscle car. This 1970 Pontiac Firebird Esprit located in Lake Worth, Florida looks great painted in Lucerne Blue. While the car is not a flashy as a Trans Am, it has the great lines of the second generation Firebird that was introduced in the middle of the year in 1970 with production running all the way through 1981. The Firebird is listed for sale here on eBay with a Buy It Now Price of $27,700. There is no option to make an offer but I am sure you could contact the seller. There are 7 days remaining in the listing.
A surprise under the hood is a non-original 428 cubic inch V8 Pontiac engine backed by an automatic transmission. The car has power steering and power brakes as well as factory air conditioning. The 428 cubic inch V8 engine was available in full size Pontiac cars in the late 1960’s as well as the Grand Prix. There is not a lot of information about the source of the engine but the Grand Prix had a 370 horsepower and 390 horsepower 428 cubic inch engine as their top performers. I have a friend with a 1969 GTO that has the 370 horsepower 428 cubic inch V8 engine under the hood and it is a stump puller making it fun to drive.
The seller states that the car is rust free and the paint looks great. It was recently repainted and is equipped with Rally II rims with no trim rings (like the Trans Am). I like the rear spoiler on the back of this Firebird Esprit which was a step up from the base Firebird and below the Formula and Trans Am in the model line up. The car has the correct chrome exhaust tips and new BFG Radial TA tires and KYB shocks.
Once you open the door, the car continues to shine. The 1970 Firebird came with low back bucket seats that were changed to one piece high back buck seats in 1971. The seller has changed out the dash bezel to the engine turned dash and added the Formula steering wheel that was standard on the Trans Am. While the car doesn’t have a lot of options, it has everything you need to have fun and go cruising or racing at the track.
I was never a fan of the stock Espirit, but this is an amazing vehicle. Perfect mods and beautiful color,
holy sea of blue Batman! Lol love it tho :-)
My favorite Pontiac, the ‘71-‘73 Firebird, next to the Grand Prix of that era. This is gorgeous. All it needs is a 5 speed.
the clutch would put you in a foot brace …. Quick !
It looks nice, but my gut tells me it’s dolled up for a quick flip. I always look at the rubber snubbers along the inner portion of the front fenders that keep the hood centered and to keep from rubbing. Overspray is an indicator of substandard work, the good news is there isn’t any overspray, the bad news is they are missing on both sides. They only cost a few dollars and are an often overlooked item, but strongly suggests a lack of attention to detail and corners being cut. That is the sort of thing, however minor, that should not be missing on a base model car with a $27,000 asking price.

Me too, and you’re right ; I usually look at the door strikers and dome light switches, and these have both been painted over , and as you said, no hood snubbers
Straight forward beefed up Firebird without all the decals. That makes two 428 powered Firebirds today!
Absolutely gorgeous with that medium blue on blue!!!
Always been a Pancho fan……owned a bunch over the years, TA’s, Formulas, a 2007 Solstice manual I regret selling just last year, LOADED with every option and just 56,000 miles, Red (my fav color) and chrome spoked factory wheels, a momentary lapse of reason on my part sold it to buy a 70s Ford Ranchero….and sold that recently!
Would like to find a clean low mileage manual modern GTO or G8 in the future.
I’d go with The G8, that modern gto just looks like a Honda coupe to me.. G8 looks like a capable sport sedan, very much like a hot BMW…
I believe the Solstice and the Sky are future collector cars. I won’t be around to see it though.
That engine turned metal dash really pops with the “sea of blue.” Looks great but price is a bit high. Would definitely need a closer inspection to get that kind of $.
Cheaper to switch to vintage air?
Why not the correct blue color carpet?
T/A air cleaner on carb – not sure if it’s a good idea to cut a hole in this nice hood for a shaker.
Good place to put a modern radio.
Wonder what trans is in here – 350 or 400?
It might have even had a powerglide if the orig motor was the chevy 6 cylinder – i think.
Picture 19 in the ad shows a TH400, the VIN says it’s a factory V8 car.

Beautiful car! In my opinion the 428 only makes it better and doesn’t hurt the value
Hands down, GM’s best design ever. And I love the Lucerne Blue color…but not so much in the interior. I would have gone with black.
People want more pics. It says it’s in Florida which is a good thing as far as weather. But where has it been. Pictures of undercarriage would be nice when a price is pushing 30g. Just my opinion in PA
I like a Black interior Steve, but its SO done to death over the decades along with Gray. One reason why I like the Blue interior.
I guess this is another instance when I disagree with many of the comments.
For starters, an Esprit was NOT the base car, there was a no-name model below it.
With 370-390 horsepower, I think that I would prefer the ability to just stomp the go pedal to the floor and hang on.
As much as I like the idea of the blue interior, in my opinion (I know no one else will agree) the blue interior and exterior is a bit much.
BTW, being an Esprit, I believe this would have had a woodgrained instrument panel and not engine turned…but I am no Pontiac expert.
There also would not have been a full set of gauges. To see the interior of an Esprit watch a few episodes of Rockford Files.
A beautiful car, and I could live with it as is. Unfortunately, I don’t have this kind of money to spend on a car that isn’t my daily driver.
It needs a ram air hood to really finish this thing off, and I just happen to have one hanging on my wall………
428, magic #s to a Pontiac man, stump puller torque monster, 2 block long smoky burnouts, my neighbor had that motor in a new 69 Bonneville, 390 hp version, was beating Camaros of the day, even with the weight, amazing motor
I’m not seeing how this “Esprit” rear spoiler is different from the TransAm spoiler.
Help, please?
Had a ’70 and a ’78 Esprit. The ’70 was Lucerne Blue with a matching interior 350 automatic and Rally IIs. The ’78 was a silver blue metallic also with a matching interior and was well-equipped including the rear spoiler. Beautiful nice handling car. And yes, I watched Rockford every week.
Nice looking car.. My favorite year for the Firebird. Being an Esprit (as the vin indicates), it should have the upgraded interior (either knit vinyl or cloth inserts on the seats and doors) and some chrome hood and door trim. Again, looks nice but I agree that some corners were cut….
