Looking, dare I say, elegant in Raven Black over gold, this 1996 Ford F-150 Eddie Bauer 4×4 pickup would look even better in our driveway than it does in the dozens of photos the seller has provided. This was the era when posh pickups were really starting to be popular and I don’t remember seeing a black and gold Eddie Bauer version before.
Ford made the ninth-generation F-Series from late 1991 for the 1992 model year until the end of 1997 for North America. I was in college for that whole run and was driving a Dodge Spirit, so a truck like this wasn’t even a remote possibility for me. The Explorer also came with an Eddie Bauer trim package as did the Bronco and Bronco II at different points in their history. Eddie Bauer, you were once such a powerhouse, what happened? I could always find medium-tall shirts and pants with a 36″ inseam in your stores. Memories…
As mentioned, the seller has provided an absolute gold mine of great photos in their listing, top to bottom, underneath, inside and out. Including the only glitch that I see, the marks and/or ding on the tailgate. I’m not sure what happened there but it’ll take a bit of tinkering to fix that so it’s up to the standard of the rest of this beautiful truck.
Other than a well-worn steering wheel, which this truck should have with 94,561 miles on it, the interior looks great to me. The seats could use a bit of help beefing up the padding to factory standards, but the velour fabric looks nice. The full-sized bed looks good with maybe a ding or two here and there, but for a truck that’s 28 years old, this truck appears to be in really nice condition. The seller doesn’t give any information at all on its condition, but they sure have provided a lot of photos for buyers to check it out.
The engine is Ford’s 5.0-liter OHV V8 with around 200 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. It sends power through an automatic transmission and transfer case to all four wheels as needed. The seller has this Eddie Bauer pickup listed here on eBay in White Marsh, Maryland, there is no reserve, and the current bid is $5,600. Have any of you owned an Eddie Bauer-trim Ford F-Series pickup?
Looks like a nice truck. For Fords, I trace the “luxury truck” all the way back to 1967, specifically when my local dealer got a heavily-equipped Ranger-trimmed high-zoot pickup. Compared to my dad’s stripper oil field trucks, it was like it was from another planet. And I was impressed.
And I agree, by the 90’s the Eddie Bauer Fords were successfully filling this role. This looks like a pretty good example, something which could be used as a truck and also as a Cars & Coffee entrant.
And being a tall guy, I appreciate the Medium Tall shirt and 36″ inseam references. I too bought some Eddie Bauer clothes back in the day.
Don’t forget that Ford Aerostars were also available with Eddie Bauer trim.
Aerostars were decent vans. AWD option for those winter roads to the cabin 🏕 ❄️ ⛷️ 🐟
Hi Stan, got that right. I had an Aerostar, that was also one of the few vehicles my ex-wife couldn’t kill. A bit hard to work on, but rarely needed anything anyways. They were good trucks.
Had the twin to that truck only in green it had over225000 miles on it when the company pulled it only big thing at 196000 trans liked gas but great truck!!
Scotty’s younger than I thought he was! I figured you were 5-7 years older than me :). And yes, I wore plenty of Eddie Bauer clothing back in the day too – in fact I still have a pair of their shorts in my dresser. I’m too young to remember them as a premium outdoor equipment provider, though. I had just started high school when the first Eddie Bauer badged vehicle (the Bronco II) hit the streets. I always liked the package and the look on the trucks even if it didn’t quite seem to make sense from a pairing standpoint.
Again with the Eddie Bauer. Do other countries do this foolishness, “The Fiat Lollobrigida”. Maybe. I had a friend with a similar truck, only a 300-6, with F.I.. Riding a long, he puts on the left turn signal to pass, and the motor kills everytime the signal flashed. I said, what the heck is that? He said a short somewhere is killing the F.I. system. Nice.
With 468 viewers and “only” $5600, a much more plausible price for one, not many see any additional value in the EB edition crap. I guess buyers were more gullible in 1996, eh?
Lolabrigida lol gold for you Howard 🏅
Autocheck score way below range at 44 (avg 55-72).
6 previous owners and there is also a title issue reported!
Looks nice but I’d really have to think about this one.
Probably not as good as it seems.
These are nice trucks I was never a fan of the Eddie Bauer paint I just don’t care for that tan but that doesn’t affect its performance. I have a 93 now with 112k miles I sold my 96 at 220k miles Pennsylvania truck so expect rust not shown in the pictures
This EB edition is nice but missing the side steps that were standard on EB models. You can find them on the used market today, but they are very pricey.
If this truck has the trailer towing package (aux tranny cooler and rudimentary power steering fluid cooler), I have an exact twin to this truck in my driveway. I see that the awful automatic locking hubs are gone from this truck (a very good thing). Mine has 240K miles, and is still going.
I still have my Dad’s 1995 Eddie Bauer (113K) and love it. It drinks gas like crazy with that big engine. When my Dad was still alive back in 2002 he asked me to take it to the local Ford dealership where my cousin was the Service Manager. Dad said find out why it uses so much gas. When I picked it up later that day my cousin asked me if my Dad had ever looked under the hood? Told me it was the biggest engine Ford had for trucks and just laughed. Told my Dad and he just chewed on his pipe a little harder. LOL. When he passed in 2002 my Mom said that it needed to be sold. I said never and it still sits in my driveway. And by the way, my oldest son has told me that when I die, he doesn’t want anything from me except that truck. Great memories.
Auction update, this nice-looking truck sold for $7,850!
