What do you do if love Ford trucks, but want something hotter and more cultured? You can go for their sibling, which in this case is a 1950 Mercury M68. Produced primarily for the Canadian market, there were not many of them made. This version on here on eBay is originally from Canada and has all the proper documentation to get it road worthy in the United States.
It has not run in quite some time but is mechanically complete. It has a flathead V8 and a 4 speed manual transmission with a claimed 12,345 miles. By decoding the nomenclature, this truck has a 6800 pound working capacity, or an equivalent 3/4 ton truck. That also indicates that it has an 8 foot bed. However, this truck is going to need a new one of those. Depending on your taste in the look of the truck, a new tailgate should be in order as well. That may be harder to come by due to the limited number of M series trucks produced and the necessary badging might be scarce.
Differing from the Ford counterpart in mostly exterior trim, this M68 has most of the trim intact. It has very little rust. The rear fenders are missing. Replacements can be sourced from an F series truck of a similar year. The floor boards have minor rust and while the seats don’t look too comfortable, seats from an F series, or reupholstering, can remedy that. With some time and effort, this truck will clean up nicely.
