This 1972 Ford F-100 is a sharp long bed pickup with the Explorer option. It wears mostly original paint dusted with some light patina, and looks to be free from any catastrophic rust. The seller notes it certainly has its flaws, but nothing you’d attribute as being anything worse than the rigors of normal use. The paint is a great look for a 70s truck, clad in original Medium Line with a black bench that’s recently been recovered. My favorite details? Those handy storage doors on the side of the bed. Find the 390-equipped Ford F-100 here on eBay with bids up to $6,500 with no reserve left to clear.
While the long bed isn’t the preferred choice among enthusiasts, it’s not a bad look – not by a long shot. Plus, it’s super handy. The body looks nice and straight all the way down the sides, but you can see the flaw the seller notes which is the repainted driver’s door that hasn’t aged consistently with the rest of the paintwork. It looks like a painter attempted to blend it with the bed and the cab at the same time, as opposed to just shooting the door and leaving the rest alone. Of course, whatever damage necessitated that the door be repainted may have affected those body panels as well. The original hubcaps are a good look for the truck, and it’s great to see they haven’t been swapped out for a later wheel.
The interior isn’t perfect, but some smart repairs have been made. The bench seat has been reupholstered, and there’s a crack in the dash. The dash still looks good overall, however, despite the one or two cracks I can see in the listing. The painted pieces still match nicely with the exterior, and interiors of this vintage always serve to remind me that the color matching wasn’t nearly as grotesque as what came later in cars that had matching carpets, dash, door panels, seats, and headliners. This is much more restrained and works well. The seller doesn’t recount any other significant details about the cabin, and all glass and the minimal switchgear look good. The original radio is missing.
The 390 V8 is a healthy mill to have under the hood and will certainly provide years of dutiful service if maintained properly. The seller doesn’t disclose any issues with the drivetrain, and notes it’s a good driver with power steering and power brakes. The engine bay could certainly use a detailing if you’re a perfectionist, but it’s nothing I would sweat in a patina’d example like this. The chrome trim around the outside of the body is presentable and bumpers and mirrors are in fair shape. Overall, this is a driver-grade example all around, but in all the best ways: not rusty and a likely crowd-pleaser wherever it goes.
Medium lime isn’t my first color choice. Pretty much unlimited aftermarket pieces available, to fix up the steering wheel and whatever else needs fixin. Explorer package was checked the least on the order form. I always liked the Sport Custom’s chrome configuration best.
I must be a weirdo, but I would never want a 2wd truck ever, nor a short bed, plus I would rather have an automatic. Any other weirdos?
All I’ve ever owned is 2WD trucks and driven in the snow, rain and whatever else nasty weather and never felt the need for 4×4. Would be nice to have, but not really needed. Long bed is useful and automatic is pretty much a requirement in todays traffic. I’d hate to own one of those crappy shifting granny low truck 4 speeds trying to keep up with traffic nowdays.
I have this same truck in boxwood green.
You could park this beauty in my driveway anytime. Great truck for whatever! I was wondering if this was a factory automatic, as it has the small brake pedal, but has the column shift with a replacement socket? Moot point, great truck for someone and its not 50 k. Good luck and stay safe.
cheers

I had a 1971 F100 that had an automatic. It had the smaller brake pedal too. I am pretty sure that’s how they came from the factory.
Had a 3/4 ton just like this one. Mine was
a base model with a 302 3-speed on the
tree. It was Orange with a black interior.
Bought it off my Dad for $600 in ’81. It
was a great truck for what it was and I
wish like hell I had it back. Sadly though,
my ex wife got it, and my ’73 Ranchero
when she left me later that year. Sure wish I could get this one!
That stinks !!!! Sorry man.
Nice Truck, but no matter how ,you look at it, “its a long bed”. The numbers will support the value, it will never have the value of a short bed, no matter what. If you don’t believe that buy it and then try to sell it.
I don’t know why people look down on long beds. I look down on short beds. I wish they made trucks with a 10 foot bed. 8 foot is barely ever long enough when actually used as a truck. Short bed trucks are rolling parts donors and totally worthless to me as a an actual truck. I’ve used a couple of short beds and hated them. 2WD long bed automatic or manual is the perfect work truck and they are cheap/feasible to buy. Why would I pay more for less?!?!?
Hi, Joe…….turned down 18k for my ’70 Sport Custom long bed in Candy Apple Red two years ago. 38k miles two owner original. I know; should have taken it, but why??
I have a 70 3/4 ton with the auto 3.73 rearend. No little brake pedal what I do have is a park brake. Use it all the time, easier to change rear brake pads than a trans.Nothing wrong with a long bed truck.
Wow! This truck look awesome! Even the wheels and tires are in good condition. Just a few minor repairs on the interior and a bit of cleaning, it will be flawless. I think the tonneau cover from 4wheelonline will fit the truck bed of this ford truck.
