Michigan Muscle: Over 60 Cars At No Reserve

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Many of you may already be aware of this upcoming auction, we featured it a while back here, but this auction, which includes Chevelles, Corvettes, Camaros, Fords, and many other cars (and tons of parts) is quickly approaching on August 25th in Vicksburg, Michigan. The entire collection is being sold at no reserve. Online bidding is open now here on Proxibid. We thought a reminder and quick review was in order!

Known as the “Michigan Muscle Collection”, it was assembled over the past four decades by Tom Brown. According to the auctioneers, “Tom always loved those old cars and would dream of that day he would have his own. He had a Ford and hopped it up and still couldn’t beat those Chevrolets. When he got that first Chevrolet and he was hooked on that GM Muscle. Tom would take many trips to California and buy cars and bring them back to Michigan. Some he would sell, but many he tucked away for himself. The collection grew and so did the parts.”

The collection centers on the GM Glory Days, with a focus on big block cars. There are way too many to describe each individually, but some highlights from the press release include several 1967-1969 Camaros, including a 1968 Camaro that was sponsored by Berger’s Chevrolet in Drag Racing. Several 1966-1972 Chevelles are preset, including an LS6 and a ’67 SS convertible. The numerous Corvettes in the collection include a 1967 Corvette Stingray Coupe with 427-Tri-Power and a 4-speed, as well as other 427 and 454 ‘Vettes. In other makes, there’s a 1933 Ford 5-window Coupe and a 1946 Ford Sedan Delivery, as well as a DeSoto and a smattering of trucks and trailers.

The condition of the cars ranges from “barn fresh” to fully restored. The online catalog does a pretty good job of summarizing the status of each one, and the photos are good. Those lucky enough to be close enough to attend in person should take advantage of a preview and time to talk with Tom about his collection on August 24th from 10-7:30 at the site.

There’s a large collection of parts in addition to the vehicles. Again, most of them are GM, although there are a few surprises such as these first-gen Chrysler Hemi valve covers.

Enthusiasts of bowtie muscle, in particular, should not miss this auction. It’s been pretty widely advertised, (including a video), so I’d expect the bidding for the rare stuff to be competitive, to say the least. But there is a lot to choose from, and some lucky bidders might walk away with some real finds here. Online bidders should understand the buyer’s premium and other fees involved, but who knows how long before another opportunity like this may surface. The auction starts on August 25 at 9 am EST, will you be there to get your name on something before the final drop of the gavel?

Wow! I know the bidder paddles will be waving like swatting flies on that day. What a collection! He certainly knew what to collect through the years and picked the right auction house to handle liquidating his collection.

I am grateful that I don’t live a little closer, because I would have to attend, and i would love to get my hands on a tri power Vette. It will be interesting to see what some of the cars sell for.

The seller had a great eye for special cars. Although I am few years away from being able to buy some of the better cars, it would be fun just to see the collection.

Love these type of auctions. Here’s one you can plan a year in advance for.

BTW if you’re not familiar with Drumheller it hosts the Tyrell Museum a truely world class museum. Every kid needs to see it. With a year to plan you can go to the Calgary Stampede, you’d have a week before the auction so can visit Banff and the Rocky’s then take in Drumheller. Great golf course there too. And you American’s get 25 cents on the dollar.

No travel agent fees, your welcome.

I used to live in Calgary and have done all you suggest. It would be wonderful to go back and see it all again as an adult to really appreciate it all. That is a fine suggestion Moose

Leaving Tom Brown aside, whenever I see someone who has a large collection of car and parts, and most of the cars are non running or not maintained as daily drivers, I wonder why? I get wanting to own cars that strike your fancy. Most of us would have an airport hangar filled with cars if money and common sense were not controlling factors.
In this collection I’d like the ’57 Fuelie with incorrect fuel injection system and the Cali ’66 SS I think with plates last registered in California in 1987. Oh yeah and the ’46 Sedan Delivery even though its wrong seven ways from Sunday.
Personally I want my cars to run.and I want to drive them.
On the other hand folks collecting like this keeps the cars and parts from the crusher. So it’s a wash.
