Micro Dragster: 1950 Crosley Wagon

1950 Crosley Hot Wagon

Looking at this tiny Crosley wagon, you can tell something just isn’t quite right (and no I don’t mean the styling)! The rear wheels stick out to far and the whole car is sitting too high, but once you take a look underneath you understand why the stance is off. This Crosley was built for drag racing at some point in its life. Now you might be thinking, how would you stuff a V8 in that tiny front end. Well, thankfully whoever built it decided not attempt that task and instead installed a Datsun 1600 engine and drivetrain. It certainly isn’t a V8, but compared the the tiny Crosley engine it is a mighty beast! Be sure to take a look at this interesting little dragster here on eBay in Belmont, New Hampshire with bidding just over $1k. So would you call this a Crostsun or a Datsley?

Say what you will, the engine transplant would make sense in that you could actually drive the car on the interstate highways. You’d be straining to do 60 with the original engine.

take a real close look at the front axle then deside how fast you want go. i am not riding in this. i do however love the aftermarket turn signal control unit. i remember people trying to install selfcancelling turn signal ” back in the day “. it was best to stay away while that was being done.

which i think has been cut to make it narrow enought to fit car then welded back together by someone who does not know how to weld. the bracing does not look any better. i wonder how that ever got pass tech inspection.

I had set of those exact same T/S in my 48 Stude Convert. they worked well.

It would be neat to drop the body on a modern undercarriage. It would be a labor of love ’cause you’ll never get your money back out of it but it’d certainly be a unique ride.

What a great neat machine. clean it up. tune it up and drive it….. You’re not doing the cannonball rally so it would be great for local meets

Fix the front end and drive it. This could be a real good find, tho I wouldn’t pay over three grand at the very most.
