A usual topic of conversation among my car-hoarding friends is to lament the lack of pole barns in our group. You see, if we had a big pole barn, we could just sock away all the broken cars and trucks we spot on a daily basis, all under the guise of fixing them “someday.” This battered 1993 GMC Typhoon is a great example: I don’t have the money or time to take this on right now, but I’ll bet it will look shockingly cheap in a few years. Find this high-performance super truck here on eBay for $6K OBO.
Ah, yes – the “Blow Me” sticker to really give you some insights into the high caliber individuals that have owned this particular truck. Whoever it was most likely was the same individual that left it to rot in a barn for several years, as the seller mentions buying it out of a structure ready for collapse in 2013. At the time, it had 68,000 miles and a blown transmission. Note the rust at the top of the rear gate.
Even if it’s a barn find of sorts, this Typhoon likely had a rough life judging by the cosmetics and the likely-abused drivetrain. Still, the interior looks far better than expected, with leather bucket seats still in good shape, but the exterior needs some work Beneath where the fender flares sit on the front fenders reveals some corrosion that will have to be fixed before the flares are re-installed.
Now, the seller has tackled some significant maintenance projects in his time with the Typhoon, which includes sourcing a rebuilt transmission, upgraded intercooler pump, and a new OEM turbocharger. He notes the truck is still running an old tune that should be updated, and that the tires are dry-rotted. A good detailing would clean this Typhoon up nicely, along with some replacement fenders. They’ll never be cheaper.
Wish granted, blown transmission….
$3k max, it’s practically a parts truck at this point.
Agreed, there’s a whole lot of trouble waiting here for the next owner.
“…reveals some corrosion-” I’m willing to take that up a notch or 5 to “…reveals enough corrosion to rival the Titanic”
That’s just a little “patina”…oh how I HATE that word! Let’s call it what it is shall we…RUST!
Another potential classic ruined by Yankee road salt.
I have never seen a $200.00 Typhoon until today. Thanks BF!
Note to this “Lynn” that dislikes K cars so much, HERE’S what you should be running away from. These vehicles are usually prevalent at car auctions, the last stop in a vehicles life before the shredder.
