Movie Star: 1972 Ford E-100 Party Van

What I wouldn’t have given for this 1972 Ford E-100 van back in the band days. If you’re looking to relive your wild youth, you can find this great looking van here on eBay in beautiful Newport Beach, California where I should have moved after high school. There is a $14,500 buy it now price listed or you can make an offer.

I had Dodge vans growing up but nothing even remotely close to being this nice. Parking and washing cars and cleaning buildings doesn’t really give a person the income to buy something this nice. My vans were always rusty and fairly beat, but I fixed up the interiors with carpet and one long padded and carpeted sleeping bench on one side and a little sitting bench on the other side.

The second-generation Ford E-Series vans were made from 1968 to 1974 and despite the fact that the next-generation Ford van is probably the one that most of us think of when we think of Ford vans, these are by far my personal favorites. Speaking of the band days, I never would have been able to read the seller’s description with the crazy font back then, I would have thought that someone slipped something into my drink. It’s not much easier to read it now in my old age.

I don’t see any major flaws in this gorgeous van inside or out. The seller says that this van has been owned by the same person for several years and they refurbished it in order for it to be in a movie called “Party Van“. That movie never was made but this van is a star nonetheless. It looks rust-free but there’s no mention of anything concerning that in the seller’s description. I wonder what the inside looks like?

Now that’s a custom van! I don’t know if I want to know what kind of movie Party Van was going to be but I’m assuming a ’70s theme movie of some sort. The disco ball is cool but we hated disco in the band days and that wouldn’t have worked 35 years ago for me but it works now. There are no engine photos but it has a 302 cubic-inch V8 and it runs and drives fine, according to the seller. This party van didn’t quite make it into the movies, but have any of you owned a movie vehicle?

I’ve never owned a movie vehicle, but I bet I could come up with a movie that could be made in this one. :)

Found my childhood movie dream car, a 1961 Cadillac Miller-Meteor Three Way Landau hearse from a childhood movie favorite called “The Monster Squad”. It’s Thrashed!! But nothing I can’t fix! Best thing is it came with solid documentation in the form of a Bill of Sale from the Taft/Barrish production company to the guy I bought it from, and an original California DMV registration in the Taft/Barrish productions name. Always looking for parts for this project in case anyone might have some leads I will be happy to pay ☺️

My old man had a Dodge Tradesman Maxivan that he had one of these “McDonalds carton” tops put on to make a camper. It instantly transformed a pretty decent van ( and I hate vans, especially the Econoline) into the worst handling POS he ever had. Oncoming trucks and gusty winds were downright dangerous. It even scared him and he didn’t keep it very long, and went with regular motorhomes. There are better campers out there, heck, I’d almost take that Edsel camper before these. At least you’d have a cool car.

I agree. Perhaps he should’ve left the van stock. Never mess with originality.

Dude… I’m feeling stoned just looking at that interior. Is there really shag carpet on the ceiling? Or is the picture upside-down?

Can someone loan me $14k…. and a pack of rolling papers?

Want a ride little girl? Disco ball come on. Little over board, but worth 16000 when done.

Back around 2004 or so I owned a used car lot. It was a “budget” lot, the average sale price for my junk was less than $800.00. One day, I am sitting @ my desk when a newer Honda Odyssey pulls in. Out pops this clean cut, proper young lady. She walks in & asked me if I rent cars out. I thought it was a strange question, considering her vehicle was so much newer & nicer than any of the cars on my lot.
I asked her why she is looking to rent a car. She explained that she is a college student & she is trying to make a low budget movie. She needs cars for certain scenes in the movie & her budget is very limited. Some of the cars needed didn’t even have to run!
I ended up “selling” a couple cars to her for less than her rental budget. I also then bought them back after the filming was completed.
One of the “hero” cars was a beater 1985 Buick wagon I took on trade. In the movie, it got shot up full of lead.
When I went to retrieve that car from the set, it was missing a couple windows & was full of fake blood. I didn’t care. Prior to their purchase and return of this vehicle, I wanted $700 out of it. They paid me enough I could have sent the car over the scale & made more than that $700 out of it.
I used to put my cell number in my ads. As I was driving the car back to the lot, a customer called asking about it. I explained that I still own it, and then I told them of the condition & why it was like that. They beat me to the dealership & bought it lol.
I gave them the contract for the movie, along with a copy of the script that I had. That came in handy because they were pulled over by the city police because the car sooo much looked like a rolling crime scene.
I also furnished my (at the time) prized 1976 Caddie hearse for the movie. Never did see the film. Probably not real good lol.

I also used to own one of the hearse used in Terminator 3, but that’s a different story that I have told here once or twice. I don’t want to bore anyone with repeated stories.

I hope the guy that stole the van “Wild Cherry” doesn’t read this ad. I hear he has a thing for vans that appeared in movies.

About 20 years ago I bought a 1967 Cadillac convertible that was used in the movie “Too Wong For, thanks for everything, Julie Newmar.
Several modifications such as camera mounts were still on the car. Mechanically the car was fine, but I had to replace the trashed interior.
The movie featured Patrick Swayze and Wesley Snipes as drag queens. I should have kept their lipstick stained cigarettes that I found in the ashtray.

I’m generally not a Ford car guy. But there are exceptions to the rule. This is a sweet looking conversion. One could use this for whatever he/or she wants to use the van for.

If I were single and younger I would buy this today. Fly to CA and party across the country in it. You can fill in the blanks.

Hmm… “Party Van”, disco ball, leather wrap around seating… I’m gonna guess that this movie was not made for anyone under 18?

I’m sorry. But that van is bad taste on 4 wheels.

I’ve had two Ford E-200 vans and I’m restoring one now!! This one is in great shape but it looks like 1972 threw up in side!! It’s just not my taste!! It seems a little pricey but you might find a guy with bell bottoms and his gold horn around his neck that just has to have it!!! Horay for the 70’s!!

I know that the seller says that it has been refurbished for a movie, but it has the feel of something created out of the mind of a person who thinks they know how things were done back in the day.
It just doesn’t feel authentic to the time to me.
