From the sellers of few pictures and words department, we have this–well–what exactly is it we do have? The seller tells us that it’s a red, V8-powered 1966 Ford Mustang. Okay, I guess we’ll have to take their word for it, because there aren’t any other pictures in the ad here on craigslist. The car is located in Homestead, Florida. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Mark H. for sending in this mystery find!
This is what a nice red V8 1966 Mustang coupe should look like. Now how far off is this one? Well, the seller does tell us that the interior is gutted. Okay, we can solve that one, there are all kinds of reproduction Mustang interior components available. They tell us the floors are solid. I’m wondering if there were solid before being put under the dreaded, moisture-retaining blue tarp or if they still are solid. The seller says they have all kinds of parts and good seats as well. I would wonder about the “torque boxes” under the car and what it really looks like. Also–if the seller can’t even bother to uncover the car before advertising it, I wonder if the $2,500 is too high of a price? What do you think, given what we know, about this mystery Mustang find?

I think his little lady has been asking him to clean up the yard and get rid of it. Obviously he doesn’t want to, so he puts the worst picture up just so he can tell her he has it up on CL but no one has called.
The photo of the nice red car is the same car, he just said. That is what it looked like when he put the blue tarp on it just last year. Honest, he said with his bold plaid shirt and a big cigar.

I think this one is a “special edition” Mustang. For the luxury pony car market back in ’66 Ford had a special TV edition. Note the vintage analog TV antenna. Of course as part of a restoration it would be necessary to uprade to a digital antenna and tv as the over the air signals are now all digital. I think they only made one of these.

Funny but there actually WAS a TV option available on a ’67, but on a Cougar. I have seen one in person about 3 years ago….here’s a pic of the TV.

The BLUE TARP OF DEATH….
Nothing rots out and promotes rust any worse than covering a vehicle with one of those woven tarps. Moisture wicks through woven tarps everywhere they come into contact with a surface, but then the moisture stays trapped underneath and simply cycles from vapor to condensate as temperatures fluctuate, because those tarps simply don’t breathe. If you want turn something into a rusty mess put one of those tarps on, leave it and forget it… Those tarps are meant to protect from heavy rains/weather and are for short term use only, or for use to hide something so hideous it shouldn’t be seen.
