Needs Finished: 1947 Willys CJ2A

1947-Willys-CJ2A-project-side

The recent heat wave has made us long for the cool air of the mountains. For those of you lucky enough to live by the Rockies, a Jeep can open up a whole new world to explore. This 1947 Willys CJ2A may not get up there very quickly, but it will definitely stand out amongst all those brand new Wranglers. This Willys needs finished, but  a lot of the hard work has already been done and the $2,200 asking price here on eBay does not seem totally unrealistic.

Someone took the time to paint and detail the engine, but is described as needing an overhaul? Guess I will go back and re read the description….

I just read it twice. I can’t understand why they went to all the trouble to detail an engine that needs a new block. Unless some other E-bayer got them, and thay want their money back. Either way I don’t trust it. -peace-

Looks like a bargain to me. He says he has almost every part it came with, along with a spare short block. Looks like a fun ride, I would dread the time with the Dept of Motor Vehicles with only a bill of sale. Seems a lot of folks sell stuff that way, but when you bring something home from 2,000 miles away, and something is wrong with the paperwork….

I had that happen with a ’62 Triumph Bonneville motorcycle back in 1970. The title hadn’t been properly transferred between the first seller and the one who sold the bike to me (that would’ve been straightened out if the second seller had bothered to register it). No one could contact the first seller so the bike languished in a shed for a year until an investigation was complete. The final cost was $200 for the bike and an additional $150 to get the title straightened out.

Neat! This would definently be categorized as a “Toy” work in progress…..

The Jeep started a whole new line of sporting vehicles that people could use to enjoy or simply get to/from work. But back when this one was built it was strictly a utility vehicle, mainly in war zones.

My father, who loved all things mechanical and unusual, hankered to have one of these, so bought one around the time this one was built. But…..well, the idea of a utility vehicle like this was better than the reality, which was: very small, very exposed, and a very stiff ride, totally unsuitable for a new wife and new baby (me).

Unfortunately, it didn’t last long in our family, but he usually had 3 to 5 different vehicles a year back then anyway, so the short ownership time wasn’t unusual.

For someone who wants something unusual, affordable, and with a connection to history, this looks like just the thing. And it doesn’t take up nearly as much space in the garage as a Bugatti Royale.

Doesn’t use up as much red ink as a Bugatti Royale, either!

just went through the NYS DMV with a 1980 truck that was bought in Conn. Go to your DMV before you buy an out of state and get all possible forms. Had to do two extra forms at the DMV office

I have the identical year 2A sitting in my garage…left to me by my wonderful Grandpa. He had owned it since the early 70’s. The flathead engine is bullet proof!

Looking at the auction I can tell you this is NOT a deal, but more a nightmare. All those ripples and seams on the drivers side tub should NOT be there. This appears to be a bunch of parts thrown together…You will pour thousands into restoring it/

A crusty full functional driver can be had for 4-5k, double that for a rust free version. With so many built and still out there those prices wont be going up anytime soon.

I restored one of these in the 80’s. Great Jeep but don’t expect a speed demon on the highway. I think I paid 4200 for it with a newly rebuilt engine and zero rust. There’s one of these on the local barter junkies for $500 needing a transmission.

$200 not 4200. I love auto correct. LOL

Needs TO BE finished. Not trying to be a jackass, but leaving words out sounds so wrong. Like the guy who told me his car “needs washed” or the people that go around all day spouting off “my bad”. I’m no English professor, but doesn’t it sound better with the missing words?
