It runs and drives, and can be considered affordable for those seeking a project candidate. The seller has listed the Mustang here on Facebook Marketplace in Suffield, Connecticut. It is fair to consider this Mustang as a bit of a mystery machine because examining the supplied photos reveals a wide array of previous paint shades. Only an inspection of the Trim Tag would reveal the truth, but that may not be necessary if someone has a clear vision for what they wish to achieve during this build. I typically prefer my classics original, but with such a high production tally during 1966, I don’t think many enthusiasts would object if the buyer made wholesale changes. For me, Ivy Green paint, a K-Code under the hood, and a pony interior, and I’d be pretty happy. Your view may differ from mine, which is one reason why the classic scene remains interesting. It appears the buyer can commence this build on a fairly sound footing. The seller confirms that the Mustang sports new rear quarter panels and the remaining lower extremities exhibit nothing severe. There is no information surrounding the floors, torque boxes, or rails, so we are flying blind on that front. Some trim pieces may require replacement, and the aftermarket wheels indicate that this classic might not be 100% original.

The harsh reality for performance enthusiasts is that with this Mustang’s T-Code 200ci six sending 120hp and 190 ft/lbs of torque to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission, it is a triumph of style over substance. The ¼-mile journey would have taken 19 seconds, with the six running out of breath before the needle hit three figures. The specifications represent the affordable “bread-and-butter” end of the spectrum for Ford, helping to establish a sales record in 1966. The seller states that this classic runs and drives, but not whether it is roadworthy. They recently added a disc brake conversion, front coilovers, and a wide assortment of new front-end components. This Mustang’s interior retains crucial items like the seats and dash but is missing its door trims. The sports wheel and modern stereo are the only obvious additions, but there is no denying that a retrim will form part of this project build. The buyer could faithfully follow the Tag, although there are plenty of options available. I would find the lure of a pony interior to match the chosen exterior paint shade irresistible, but if the buyer plans to perform changes elsewhere, they could adopt a custom approach with the interior.

      Not exactly a 65 grill. The horizontal bars are 65. But there are no short vertical bars, so that pony corral is actually 66 gt style. With 65 bars attached.

    Too bad this classic got away, despite the silly wheels and steering wheel. I think the skull in the center of the grille ornament says it all.
