Needs Tires: 1965 Plymouth Barracuda

The seller says “was running when parked”. This statement is really a pet peeve of mine. Most things were running when they were last parked unless it was found dead by the road and they got a roll back to dump it on their property. The thing is, how long has it been parked? When was the last time it was cranked? Was it even in this century? Here is a 1965 Plymouth Barracuda that reader Ikey H. found and brought to our attention. It is listed here on Craigslist near Sacramento, California.

It’s like the Barracuda was playing pony baseball, tapped the ball, and made it to first base. But just behind was the Mustang, which knocked it out of the park and ran past the Barracuda and came into home base first. The problem is that Baracuda didn’t hide its roots (Valiant) as well as Mustang did (Falcon). This Barracuda stirs some memories. My ex-brother-in-law had a yellow 1965 Barracuda with the black stripe up the hood, over the top, and down the trunk. I can’t really tell if this one is yellow or white under the barn dust.

The seller says it is a true barn find and says they are becoming hard to find. That may be true. The seller also says it’s a project, no doubt about that. There are no interior or engine pictures. And aren’t you glad the seller pointed out that it needs tires? The problem is that whoever buys this would be putting down some serious money to get it back in shape. Checking classic car values online puts an excellent condition 1965 Barracuda somewhere around $20,000. Restoring this one could easily get to and pass that figure.

One good thing about it is that it has the 273 cubic inch V-8, but I’m sure it would need a major overhaul or either would have to be replaced with another one. The Barracuda also has automatic transmission. It’s possible this car could best be used as a parts car. I’m sure the back glass would bring a hefty price. I’m not sure if it would be worth the asking price of $4,199 as a parts car though. Parts or restore? What is your opinion?

You’re right about that back glass. (I saw that episode)

A good bath and a rub down could reveal a not-so-bad exterior. Looks like most of the trim pieces are present and the only clue on the interior is what appears to be a saggy headliner.

Any info available on the tires? They look iffy to me……..

You are right, it’s iverpriced, he must have mistaken this for a later model barracuda, one which actually has a following of people that are actually willing to part with their money.

I like the look of the early Barracudas. I had a white 1985 Monte Carlo that ended up sitting for a few years, it looked like this when it finally got towed away.It was outside uncovered, but didn’t see much sun.

The car is overpriced and the Seller has to do a better job showing the vehicle.

If the seller wants to unload this car, he (she), needs to cut the price in half!
