New Paint, New Interior: 1979 Pontiac Trans Am

I have heard from photographers that one of the cardinal sins of car photography is to take pictures of a car off road. Pictures of cars should always be on a hard top whether it is a driveway, road or parking lot. I don’t know much about photography but this car still looks good from just about any angle. The car is for sale on eBay with a Buy It Now Price of $12,500. There are 12 bid currently with the reserve not met at $8,400. The car is located in Windsor, California. With 4 days remaining in the listing, will this 1979 Pontiac Trans Am sell? It seems like a pretty good deal. The car is optioned with T-Tops, air conditioning, power windows, power locks and tilt steering.

The seller states that the Trans Am was acquired in 1979 and was originally Code 69 Heritage Brown. Upon his purchase the buyer had the car professionally repainted in Code 50 Solar Gold. The car probably has over 100k miles and the interior was a bit worn and the vinyl, sun faded. So, the Trans Am comes with a new interior, it is just not installed. The pictures and the description show the car includes new seat covers, foam and door panels. It looks like a stalled project. There has been some mechanical work done on the car including rebuilding the carburetor, timing chain and harmonic balancer. The air conditioning and speedometer are nonoperational. The dash has one small blemish.

This Trans Am is equipped with the base engine that was available in the 1979 Trans Am. The L80 Oldsmobile 403 cubic inch V8 engine was rated at 185 horsepower and 315 lb ft of torque. It was only available with the Turbo 350 automatic transmission. Optional engines included the L37 Pontiac 301 cubic inch V8 engine and the W72 Pontiac 400 cubic inch V8 engine. The L37 301 cubic inch V8 engine that was rated at 150 horsepower in 1979 and equipped with a 4 barrel carburetor. The rarest engine in a 1979 Trans Am was the W72 Pontiac 400 cubic inch V8 engine which was rated at 220 horsepower.

This car can be bid on here on eBay. As can be seen, it is equipped with T-Tops and 15×7 aluminum snowflake wheels. The wheel selection indicates that the car is not equipped with the WS6 Performance Handling Package. In that case, the rear gear ratio would be 2.41:1 with the L80 403 cubic inch V8 engine. With the WS6 Performance Handling Package, the Trans Am would have a 3.23:1 rear gear ratio. For someone who wants to tackle the interior, this is a good buy in today’s market.

Good project. The description comes across as sincere and seems honest, which is becoming hard to find. I’m surprised no one has pulled the trigger on the BIN, the lack of quality pictures is probably a factor.

The discription of this TA was above board and straight forward. I doubt the quality of the pics have Impacted the sale as much as the location of the car on the west coast, which directly creates viewing of the car and transportation cost to a new location. Nice desireable car, should sale!

Same here, not surprised that someone hit the BIN button. Someone just got into the recent T/A obsession at a reasonable price.
