In case the TR4 and MGA projects we’ve recently featured are too much work for you to consider, take a look at this clean 1967 MGB located in Philomath, Oregon that reader Matt H. called to our attention. The owner has listed it for sale here on craigslist and has recently reduced the price to $8,000.
Shiny British Racing Green paint is always a plus when you are looking at a classic sports car. This MGB looks really fantastic and is largely original. The seller has used the car as a daily driver in the past over seven years of ownership but now only drives the car occasionally.
The metal dash, chrome bumper MGBs have a much more classic driving experience for me than the later rubber bumpers. The suspension on these earlier cars is set for a lower ride height than the later cars as well (there are conversion kits to lower the later cars to the earlier ride height).
Unfortunately, there is a little bit of rust both here and in the lower front fenders. I would want to tackle it now (patch panels and new reproduction fenders are available) before it becomes a major issue. There’s not enough that it would scare me from buying the car, but you should at least be aware of it and I compliment the seller for making it evident.
Now that’s what a classic MG interior should look like! Would you replace the MG blanking plate with a radio, leave it as is and enjoy the 1798 cc engine’s exhaust note or utilize a modern solution like Bluetooth and wireless speakers?
Speaking of the engine, here it is, looking very original down to the generator (versus a more modern alternator). The seller states that it is “ready to drive it to the mountains or the coast today” and I believe it. What’s your favorite MGB memory?
I stumbled on this one earlier today. It seems like a great price for what you see here. I live near San Francisco Bay and this is still 15 hours north of me. That keeps me looking for the black with red interior version of this. I imagine I won’t see this one long though. Nice buy
If it only had O/D, this, to me, is the epitome of MGB’s. ’67 was what I consider, the best MGB made, and BRG and 1st year for all syncro trans, sweetens the deal. This is what a MGB should be like. In ’68, they became BL, and with a bunch of regulations for US models, it eventually took them down.’67 was like the young person full of ambition before the weight of the world got them down. While the O/D is a deal breaker for me, we have to remember, in ’67, 2 lanes were still the major portion of our highways, and a non-O/D car did just fine and if you limit yourself to 2 lanes, if possible, it still is adequate. And for the record, if you need a radio while driving this, you are missing the whole point of this car, and above all, take some tools with you. Great find!!!
Howard, and they’re one of the few classics that hasn’t inexplicably gotten completely nuts price wise, which I know you have plenty to say about : ) It’s one of the reasons I’m thinking of buying one.
“What’s your favorite MGB memory?”
Selling the one my wife had when we married, along with Mr Smith and Mr Lucas.
Picked up a red ’67 in Norfolk, VA in August of that year. Had to be red to echo the red ’55 MGA I had in Europe for four years. Fun driving with both, wish I still had them.
Sold my 67 GT two years ago for this price. Similar condition except no rust.
This is a good buy and the car will bring a lot of smiles.
My non-synchro 4 speed could go 70 mph all day and you can talk to the passengers without yelling so the O/D is only a wish not a need. Buy it and enjoy.
Does anybody know of any one currently making a hard top for these? I’ve already done plenty of searching and the only one that comes up is a company called Smooth Line and they’re ugly in my opinion. No offense Smooth Line. They look like they’d be good for someone looking for more head room though.
In the 60’s and 70’s there were gobs of different aftermarket tops being produced, some that completely changed the look of the entire car by turning it into a fastback. It looks to me like finding a vintage piece somewhere is the only option. I really expected there to be more new options available.
Hi Eric – I’m just Googling here, but I am getting better results searching for ‘mgb fiberglass hardtops.’

Thanks Matt! You had a bit better luck than me. Those two tops appear to be repros of the original factory top that was available, and look great in my opinion. I’ve seen the link of the history of tops, some pretty interesting and wild tops were available back then! I just changed my search strategy and will now waste the next couple of hours researching lol. Thanks again!
I owned 2 1971 mgb s at two different times. Both were relatively trouble free and both were my daily driver including during the Canadian winter! A fun car to drive especially in top down mode!,Price on this 1967 sounds reasonable!

I had one in Quebec while at university in the late 60’s. Had to have an apartment at the top of a steep hill to be sure I could get it started.
That exhaust doesn’t look stock. Any thoughts on what it is and any benefits it may have?
The chrome tips look cooler, and most likely it has less back pressure than the stock set up. So, a little more throaty sound and maybe a 3-5% increase in HP.
Driving my MGB GT south toward work in Schenectady, NY — took a pheasant on the nose and lost the hood ornament. Car never faltered, but I did at clean-up time after. dt
Dave, I’m in WNY. Is the B for sale? : )
I must have gotten a “lemon” when I bought my 1967 MGB new (looked just like this one, but mine had a AM/FM/MB/SW radio from Germany in it though). Just as the warranty ran out it was running bad and I found out that it needed a valve job. They had a short warranty back then too.
Got the Dealer to fix it and I drove on. Just a short while later it happened again. I of course complained to the dealer… the answer was sorry it is out of warranty.
Next on the way back from Fla. I was heading north on I-95 and found the car would only do about 35 or 40 mph all the way from Ga. to Richmond VA… another valve job needed.
One of the dealers mechanics, whom I went to high school with, told me that I needed to trade it as soon as it was fixed, he knew of a few of these that apparently were just built wrong at the factory and no one was going to do anything about it.
I took his advice, sad because I really liked the car. I had never raced it or stressed it, so I had no idea why my car had that problem. Anyone else have valve problems?
Had a 1970 British Racing Green MGB GT as my daily driver in the 70s. What a wonderful fun car to drive. So easy to work on reg maintenance was fun to do. Using the spanner when rotating tires was a hoot..sold when kids came along. Would love to buy another but current prices and being retired and on.fixed income won’t work. Anyone have one in fair condition at a realistic price.
