Nice Older Resto: 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger

This 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger is more than just a pretty face. If you have gasoline coursing through your veins, then this is a car that probably packs enough mumbo to keep you happy. Barn Finder Pat L referred this absolute gem to us, so thank you so much for that Pat. Located in Tampa, Florida, you will find the Dart listed for sale here on Craigslist. The owner has set a pretty reasonable price of $12,900 for a car that comes with enough extras to make it pretty tempting.

The Dart is the result of an older restoration, but it isn’t clear how long ago this was performed. However, the owner does state that the car has been garage-kept for more than 20-years, so this might be an indication for us. Rust is absolutely minimal in the Dart, with only two very small spots visible. Neither of these would be much larger than a dime and should be fairly straightforward to repair. Otherwise, the paint has a nice shine to it, and the panels look to be as straight as an arrow.

The black interior contrasts well with the green exterior, and it generally is another area of the car that presents well. There are a few aftermarket items present, such as a tachometer, some auxiliary switches, and a radio/cassette player, but the rest of it looks both stock, and in good condition. The owner does say that there is a seam separation on the driver’s seat, but this isn’t visible in the photo. Still, if it is just a separation, it should be able to be repaired without having to resort to a new cover.

Under the hood, the news is both good…and better. The 340ci V8 that is currently in residence isn’t original. It was built when the restoration was being undertaken and is said to run strong. The clip below shows the engine running, and it does sound really tough. Also new at the time of restoration was a 727 Torqueflite transmission, and an 8¾” Sure-Grip rear end. So, now for the better news. While the existing engine isn’t numbers-matching, that really isn’t a problem. Included with the car is the original engine, which has been stripped in preparation for a rebuild. What you get is two high-nickel blocks with forged crankshafts, a pair of ported and polished heads, remanufactured rods, forged pistons, along with sundry other parts. Also included is the car’s original air conditioning system.

You would have to admit that this 1969 Dodge Dart Swinger is a pretty attractive proposition. The fact that the original engine isn’t under the hood is hardly a problem since it is included in the sale. It’s a car that looks about ready to be driven and enjoyed immediately, and after all, isn’t that what owning a classic car is all about?

If not happy with the engine, these are easy swaps too.
We did 3 in one day and had two of them running back in `78.
And this was with a hoist on the roof beam of a Texaco, during business hours…

This looks like an excellent deal. One of you south-east Barn Finders should snap it up. Otherwise why else are you reading this site?

Wow. Very cool. Even like the Green. Too bad not a 4 speed manual. Finally something priced right.

If you can turn a wrench it wouldn’t be too big a job to convert this car to a 4 or 5 speed.

There is more rust lurking than the seller suggests. What’s under the paint will determine if it’s a good deal.

Cool old Dart with two engines and turn key fun, wow, probably the best price tag I’ve seen in awhile.
Keep the current engine in it and basically no worries, the 727 automatic is just fine especially if it’s of the bang/screech variety.
I know they made factory 383/440 Darts for the street and a few hemi powered racers but the 340 is just a better way to go, at least to me.
    I like.

Just cridge at the wiring – like a 1967 Charger I looked at the other day. Besides that if it does indeed have the matching motor that would be a sweet deal.
