The mid-size car market was in full swing in the middle years of the 1960s and its leading player was the Chevrolet Chevelle. It was launched in 1964 as (we assume) a response to Ford downsizing the Fairlane in 1962, sandwiched between the Falcon and Galaxie. This 1967 edition, little changed after the styling refresh the year before, is a beautiful survivor-quality car (although the paint is not original). It’s said to drive great and has just 40,000 miles. That adds up to a stout asking price of $45,000 in Providence, Rhode Island, and here on craigslist. Kudos to T.J. for the cool tip!
More times than not, when we see a Chevelle here on Barn Finds, it’s usually an SS 396 in varying states of condition. In this case, we have a “regular” Malibu Sport Coupe which was one of 166,000 produced in 1967. It might be a candidate for the “Nicest One Left” Award. The Mountain Green paint looks spectacular as it should since it’s a quality repaint, though we don’t know how recently that was done. All the sheet metal is said to be original and the stamped body panels all jive. The vinyl top offers a good color contrast and is said to be the one installed on the car when new.
Under the hood appears to be a 283 cubic inch V8 engine which was in its last days at Chevrolet (it had been around since 1957 and would be replaced by the 307). It looks like it has been repainted or at least kept as clean as the rest of the automobile. The engine is paired with a 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission (given the shifter pattern below the odometer which reads less than 41,000 miles).
The word original also applies to the interior which looks nearly flawless though the fabric on the front seat bottom may be a tad stretched. The seller says this Chevy is ready to be driven anywhere, which you would expect for the selling price. Besides cash, the seller is willing to consider a trade for either a Tri-Five Chevy with a big block V8 or a Harley-Davidson Knucklehead or Panhead. Got one that you’ve been itching to swap?
Wow, a beautiful original with low miles! I hope it finds a good home where it’s preserved and enjoyed for what it is. This was a commuter car, or someone’s A-B car. Most were turned into hotrods, rotted away, or run into the ground a very long time ago. This might actually belong in a museum.
I think I’d add a set of poverty hubcaps and call it perfect.
I agree!!
I agree!
The original hubcaps are in the trunk. Come to think of it, the original rims should’ve been black with those hubcaps, not body color. To the best of my knowledge, anyway.
Based on the ‘67 Chevelle brochure, I believe that the body color wheels are correct on this model.

I agree, learned that years ago. While it wears rally rims now it I still have the 14 inch wheels and covers-full covers got black wheels.
Perhaps it had dog dish caps at some point or more likely someone didn’t know
It’s nice, but when you are asking $45,000 dollars for a car that claimed to have 40,000 original miles you need to have a stack of receipts or a log book to back it up, a picture of a speedometer and a title from 2022 don’t cut it. A repaint of the body, engine and who knows what else casts doubt on how original the car really is.

It’s a nice car, but as you note, it’s been repainted in and out. I’d love it as is – but not at a price anywhere near $45k.
I can a brand new 1967 chevelle piece by piece for about that price.
I looked at all the pictures and this appears to be very clean underneath. Would’ve liked to see the trunk floor and door bottom seams. I’d go to narrow whitewall tires and add power brakes. All after a close exam .
$45,000 may be a dream for the seller.
It it was a SS 396 4-speed car in this condition it might command $45k but it’s not so is about $20k overpriced.
A darn Kia is $45K and higher now and nobody notices it. You can drive this car from coast to coast with no problems and get thumbs up all the way. Get it breathing with headers and duals, rally rims with blackwall B/F’s and youre done here!
I would rather have seen an original engine compartment and used the paint can budget for proper battery cables instead of those cheesy bolt on terminals. Things like that make me wonder what else might be going on. That being said, beautiful appearing car, but not a $45k car.
As is often said here, you can buy a lot of nice cars for 45K. Still a beautiful car.
Beautiful. $45k seems awfully high, as it appears to be a repainted car. Great ride though
Just because an SS is a hot item, I don’t see a trickle down to a plain jane Malibu as a justification for these god awful prices we see for these.
Nicest one left? Answer is No
Its a very nice car, but not $45k nice
At my age I don’t dream much anymore as this seller does. I sold a legitimate documented 54K mile 68 307/350 column shift for 11K in 2016 or so.
94 year old lady lived within 5 miles of the dealership and Fremont GM plant.
No fluffing like this one has had though and 67 is a better body style.
This car IMO might go 23K
Crazy Chevy prices. Buy a 1967 Olds 442 for much less than that.
One change for 67 was those wonderful taillights, They are a solid upgrade from the look of the 66 ones. A 283 gets the job done in these. In magazine tests of these Mom and Dad mid-sized cars back in the day, 283/PG Malibus out accelerated 289/C-4 Fairlanes quite consistently, with 0-60 typically about 11 seconds with the 195 hp. 2 barrel version. The Fairlanes were not slow, but typically clocked around 12 seconds.
