The Pontiac LeMans has often been overshadowed by its big brother the G.T.O. In fact, a lot of the base models were made into G.T.O. clones. This particular project is a 1970 LeMans Convertible and can be found here on Craigslist with an asking price of $4,500. Located in Cromwell, Connecticut, this will make a good winter project for someone. But you better get it soon before the snow flies! Thanks to Barn Finds readers BW & AMXBrian for both tipping us off to this car.
The engine is a rebuilt 1970 Pontiac 350, bored .30 over, but the ad says it is non-numbers matching. The seller says they have the receipts and pictures documenting the rebuild. The engine is Turbo Hydromatic 350 automatic with a floor shift. The ad also says there is a “garage full of parts and extra motor included.”
The interior has been stripped and it looks like the metal is in decent shape. Hopefully, the seller has organized the parts that were removed. Other than the statement about the “garage full of parts” the ad only states the car needs a restoration (which may be expensive if you have to buy a bunch of new parts).
Here is a shot of the rear quarter, which is obviously new. Based on the photos in the ad, the structure appears to be fairly solid and the light rust doesn’t look too deep. Are you in the market for a convertible muscle car project? This might just be the one for you.
Good project for the right person. Don’t know on the $$ as I’m not up on them relating to Pontiacs.
Looks like the body repairs have be done, whether up to somebody else standards is up to who buy’s it. If a garage full of parts and spare engine, is a true description of what he has and of what is missing from the car, than I would say 4500.00 is a good price, but to me it better be a bunch of good quality parts, no after market junk.
I always likes the 70 Pontiac LeMans ,and if I didn’t have 3 waiting for restore, and the Wife let me, I might consider a drive to Conn., to look at it, but I know her answer already.
Price has now dropped to 4K per Craigs listing. Perhaps more “tempting” to Northeastern poncho fans. My taste runs to original GTO and the 421 light-body drag racer Catalina. A high school buddy “tricked” his Mom into buying a new first edition red GTO, as he was the household driver. His Dad had recently passed away. That was some car. White interior. He actually mounted a beer tapper as the shift knob ! Anyway, hope someone saves this one, as all cars of this era are getting scarce.
