No Reserve Custom! 1951 Chevrolet 3100

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This really cool 1951 Chevrolet pickup has been a daily driver for the past three years. The owner is letting it go to the highest bidder at no reserve and it can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $11,100. Located in Price, Utah, the seller says it is a “southwest desert survivor.” The patina on the hood, doors, and fenders doesn’t match perfectly, but overall, this truck has a great presentation. It features a modern drive train and nice upgraded interior, take a look for yourself.

The engine is a fuel-injected 350 Chevrolet V8 mated to a 4L60E automatic transmission. Under the hood, you’ll also find an aluminum radiator with electric fans which the owner says keeps the truck cool in the Utah heat. The exhaust gasses are expelled through a Flow Master system and although there’s no information in the ad regarding the year of the engine or the mileage, however, the owner says it works great and never misses a beat. As stated before, this has been a daily driver for three years, so it must be pretty reliable.

Sometimes aftermarket (modern) seats can look out of place in a vintage truck like this, but these ones look pretty good. They are leather buckets with a custom-built console. The interior also features a custom steering wheel and Ron Francis wiring harness. The windshield and back glass are in “great shape” but the cracked side glass will need to be replaced.

This truck looks good from any angle. It features an independent front suspension along with power disc brakes. The wheels are 18’s and 20’s and give the truck a modern look with a classic 5-spoke design. Overall, this one is a winner in my book. I’m not sure what the final price will be, but you can guarantee it will be less than what the builder put into it. What do you think?

That is my kind of truck! Nice build. If it was mine I’d go on and paint it.

Some states are starting to get picky on having matching VINs on the body and chassis and several are actually inspecting before issuing titles and tags (although not mentioned in the ad the pics make it appear that it has a modern chassis underneath it). Would make sure you understand local laws and enforcement levels before diving in on this. It’s a nice truck and bidding is over $12k but it would be a shame to buy a $15k paperweight.

The wheels/tires, unlike Dolly Partons ‘big add ons’ doesn’t do a thing for me. Truck will never be a speed demon, why try to make it look like one. I would go with stock wheels and caps and enjoy all the other updates. To each their own.
Finally figured out the patina thing. Unlike a 10g paint job, parking lot dings and scrapes only add to it. Perfect for a care free daily drive.
All you folks be cautious and stay health. Your comments are important to me and I don’t want to lose anyone.

Would guess (although it isn’t stated in the ad) that it’s an S-10 chassis or some other modern chassis underneath it. With that motor and trans combo should be able to at least run with traffic.

Brent, thanks for the personal concern. I agree with returning to stock wheels. These biggies never have done anything for me. But, I would paint it…not a big, expensive job, just a decent everyday driver paint job, reasonably priced. Shop around, maybe help that interior a little….then, drive. Bidding has reached $14,300.00. Wow! Someone really wants this. Too expensive for me.

Driving a vehicle with bare metal showing in the rain, what’s the worst that could happen?

Maybe it’s clearcoated? Unpainted metal would rust in about 5 seconds, in my experience at least.

Looks like it’s done pretty well over the last 69 years. At this rate it will be rusted through in another 200 or 300 years. If you’re really worried you can oil it.

All I’d do is paint it flat green (like the rear fender) from the beltline down and flat white above it and drive the wheels off it. Oh yeah and build some different brackets to pull the back bumper up and in a bit.

Matching Patina?? HUH? I like Dusty’s idea of painting it flat green, other than that it looks like a work in progress, and that’s fine too. hate the wheels and tires.
Looks like a nice build but verify that also. Good luck!!

Other than it needing paint, I wouldn’t change a thing. Who would build a custom like this and fit it it with stock skinnies and caps? Not that the old 6 lugs would fit anyway, especially over modern disc brakes (breaks, lol).
