No Reserve Donation! Pontiac Firebird Trans Am WS6

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This gorgeous 2000 Pontiac Firebird Formula is a recent donation to a major charitable organization. Therefore, it’s selling at no reserve by one of my favorite sellers on eBay that flips these donation vehicles up for sale. Who would donate this gorgeous LS1-equipped Firebird, which appears to be in excellent condition despite 151,000 miles on the clock? This one is a head-scratcher, but someone’s going home with a monster. Find it here on eBay with bidding at a measly $3,800.

There were a variety of packages and options you could spec with this generation Firebird, and bear with me as I sort of the nomenclature: I believe this is technically a WS6 Trans Am, although the VIN number breaks down to a Formula coupe as the trim level. However, the front fascia and high-polished 5-spoke wheels point to the WS6 package, which would make this one hell of a well-optioned Firebird if so. The body appears to be in excellent shape, with minor road rash on the nose as its greatest offense.

The interior is similarly stunning for the miles, with handsome bucket seats in nice shape and a backseat that looks unused. The T-Top roof is a must-have on a Firebird, and this one is equipped with the optional automatic transmission. If our experts confirm this is a WS6 car, it would also have a stiffer suspension, bigger sway bars, a larger airbox, and a power steering cooler. The LS1 speaks for itself, but the overall picture is one of a monstrous performance car and screaming bargain in this auction.

The other indication to this being a WS6 Trans Am is the ground effects kit, which added side sills, rear valence trim and a different front fascia treatment. Non-Trans Am Formulas were effectively a V6 Firebird body with the V8 powertrain (thanks to NCPontiacs.com for the tip). Overall, aside from finding a later car with the Hurst 6-speed, this donation vehicle is one of the best I’ve seen kicked over to the neighborhood charity. Someone, please – bid on this and makes us all jealous.

Someone is going to get what will likely be a nice car, hopefully at a good price.

These guys cycle through a lot of cars. They seem pretty straightforward because they don’t have an incentive to lie. If I lived in near them I’d watch their auctions like a hawk.

Car is running, check gauges light is on, very low oil pressure. If it don’t get bid up to the moon, the bald tires he does mention and the potentially failing motor could be compensated for.

I have a 1994 Firebird Formula and the oil pressure at idle was always low from brand new. It improves while driving but the rpms with the automatic stay so low that you never feel that the engine is having to work all that hard to move the vehicle. The automatic also has a push button from racing mode or cruise mode.

If the price stays low someone will most definitely have a great performance car for low cost. Is it a formula or is it a trans am? Either way it’s gonna be strong, but I’m confused.

I have one of these in my garage now my son bought from a friends estate, he had built it in to a 12 second race car, still needs a roll cage and a few other details but I got a ride of my life in that thing. If it doesn’t get much higher throw a set of tires on it and drive it until the motor blows then drop in a crate motor and go.

Does your son have a convertible? If not, he won’t need a roll bar until it runs quicker than 11.50.

Depends on the track. Some local strips have different rules for ET and MPH that govern safety equipment requirements.

The rules are governed by the sanctioning body. Their insurance is tied to those rules, if they ignore those rules and an accident occurs the insurance company can decline the claim. NHRA mandates 11.50 for hardtops, I don’t know what IHRA mandates, who knows what independent, or wild cat, tracks allow.

Steve no it’s a T-roof car like the one featured but in dark blue, like I said it still needs a little work and he hopes to get it in to the low 11s.

Awesome cars!! Not many left after “cash for clunkers “. I saw 3 traded in a week , then had 2 kill the motors & transmissions . What a waste!

      Worst government program. EVER.
(Ok I admit Japanese internment also wasn’t a good idea).

This is NOT a WS6. No WS6s were offered in Maple Red Metallic. I have a 2000 Maple Red Metallic. Only 504 MRM TA coupes were produced in model year 2000 though. Still a rare color / car with so few being produced.

I’ve bid on and won 2 “donated” cars. They were both beat beyond belief!!! Each had so many problems that were not disclosed I couldn’t believe that they could even sell them.
There’s a reason people “give” these cars away.
    I’ll never buy another!!!

I bought one car from these guys but I did NO follow through after getting there to pick it up…Not only was the car a total POS, the these guys were the biggest A-holes around. Basically think of them as a repo/impound yard and you won’t be disappointed. They add a ton of fees to their auctions also…..I would NEVER do business with them, and I lived only an hour away from them for years

To tell if it was a Trans Am from factory, you have to look at the RPO codes. You’d be looking for Y82 on the drivers door.

The VIN doesn’t differentiate between the Formula or Trans Am, just V6, V8, WS6.

The door RPO code will list WS6 if its a WS6. And as TB said there were no Maple Red WS6s made. Just a regular T/A with a Ram Air hood.

Nice car in principle. Colour match seems off on the front bumper cover.

The 93-02s TAs were all labeled formulas! This ones is not a ws6,has the plain airbox and 16inch whls! The base formula had the plain firebird bumpers, low spoiler hatch and no grpundeffects as the TA has the high spoiler hatch, better appearance bumper covers and ground effects, the ws6 package was hood,17×9 rims, air box, suspension …looks like someone slapped a ws6 hood in it and forgot them rims and rear bumper emblem . The rpo sticker will verify

Neat find but not a WS6 car. It’s a standard T/A with a WS6 hood on it. Note the lack of the ram air system under-hood, the lack of WS6 badges below the rear taillights and the standard sized tires (WS6 cars came with P275/40ZR17 tires). The WS6 package was available on the T/A and Formula. T/A WS6 cars did not get any special ground effects beyond those which were already standard on the T/A.

These LS1 engines are bullet proof. Remap the ECU and burn rubber! 221k miles on my 2003. Still runs like a scalded dog! Just recently it is beginning to use a quart between oil changes.

I live in the area. They are jerks and after visiting I would never buy from them.
