No Reserve Find: 1986 Dodge Power Ram D150 4×4

Here’s one for the Mopar truck fans—a genuine “grandpa’s truck” that’s stayed in the same California family since new. This 1986 Dodge Power Ram D150 4×4 short bed is an unmolested survivor with just 77,000 original miles and a clean history. It’s now being offered here on eBay with no reserve, located in Artesia, California.

According to the seller, the truck was originally purchased by his father, who rarely drove it and never used it for heavy work or off-roading. Later in life, the family surprised him with a professional repaint in the original Radiant Silver. Sadly, he passed away shortly after, and the truck was stored by various family members. Now, the family has decided it’s time for someone new to enjoy this preserved square-body Dodge.

Under the hood is the original 5.2L 318ci V8 paired with a 2-barrel carburetor, automatic transmission, and 4WD. It starts easily, idles quietly, and shifts smoothly. The seller notes that it recently received a tune-up, a rebuilt carburetor, and a full fluid check. The truck runs and drives well, and the brakes feel solid. The A/C blows air, but it’s not currently cold.

The body is said to be very clean, with no rust or bubbling. A single repaint was done to a driver-quality standard, with the exception of some fading and scratches on the top of the passenger-side fender. The rest of the truck is free from dents or major blemishes. It still wears its original blue-and-yellow California plates, and the undercarriage, floors, and door jambs all appear solid and clean.

Inside, the truck features a red interior in nice shape with functional gauges, lights, and factory radio. It’s not a showpiece, but it presents well and has been preserved as a clean, honest driver. The seller describes it as “not a trailer queen,” but a great example of a dependable, low-mileage 4×4 from Dodge’s square-body era.

With a clean Carfax, matching VIN tags, and a clear California title, this short-bed Power Ram looks like a great candidate for someone wanting a vintage truck they can use and enjoy.

Would you keep it as-is or start building the cleanest classic trail rig in your town?

Seems a nice honest little truck. Shortbox 4x4s are always cool. Sliding rear window, and that quarterglass will offer good air flow. Looks like cruise control is in there, fix the a/c if you wish, and head for the countryside.
Thanks for the write up Elizabeth.

Looks like a BBC in the picture.

Those wide valve covers give it away and it also says “454” on the air cleaner. Wrong picture in the wrong ad? They are probably selling a Chevy too.

These were one of the best looking pickups that Dodge ever produced. And a short box. Yes!, Unfortunately, 4×4, No. If this was your basic 2WD I’d take a swing at it as the truck looks really nice. Not sure about that 454 under the hood though, I seriously doubt that picture belongs in this ad!

    Isn’t a Dodge 4×4 of that vintage a W150? Nice truck.

I had a ’85 D150 with the 318. Still running when I sold it in ’99 with 377,000 miles on it. Smoking from bad valve seals, but still running.

I think the author here screwed up. Go look at the ebay auction if you want to see the correct engine pictures.

That would be sweet if it had a swapped 454 Chevrolet under the hood. Zero arguments from me, if it were true.

I believe the author added a wrong photo from a different vehicle in the listing an error on there part. It shows the original 5.2 318 V8 in the original listing .. But super nice truck!

That’s a shame that it is not Chevy powered.

You could give 30k for this, be 20k short of a new one. Might not have all the latest safety features or be emission compliant, but it ‘ill run just as long and if anything happens to it you can fix it yourself.
