No Reserve Project: 1977 Chevrolet Corvette

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1977 Chevrolet Corvette is listed as a no-reserve project, with what looks like a very sound body, complete red leather interior, and an intact drivetrain. There’s some superficial evidence it was a project or show car back in the day with the induction-style hood and steel wheels that barely fill the arches, which may be an indicator it at one time rode on much flashier wheels and big rubber. Find the Corvette here on eBay with bids to $2,125.

The seller is focused on telling potential bidders he doesn’t want any “newbies” in the auction, so you need to reach out to him first if you have limited feedback. I suppose the pictures tell the story here with very clean paintwork and no obvious dings or dents. The Corvette has seemingly been kept in indoor storage given there’s no evidence of environmental damage or excessive exposure to sunlight, but that’s all hearsay until you get up close and underneath to see what shape the floors are in.

Red on red is an excellent combination for a muscle car and is perhaps the best selling feature of a project that clearly hasn’t run in some time. The interior shows plenty of wear but it looks to be more from storage as opposed to someone sliding in and out constantly. The seats appear quite solid and the same goes for the carpets once that garbage is cleared off the passenger side floor. I have a feeling with a weekend’s worth of detailing this would look like a much different car.

The engine bay shows some level of disassembly with the air cleaner removed, but perhaps the seller was messing with the carburetor in an attempt to get the Corvette to run. The good news is it doesn’t appear to be heavily modified underneath, so even if my suspicions of it having not been left stock at one time are correct, the mechanical bits don’t appear to have been messed with. The no reserve listing is the most attractive aspect of this auction, along with the supposedly clean condition underneath.

Interesting take on how to service a steering column. And that slushbox is certain to take away any joy the small block can give…

    Does it have a birdcage?

They were optional on “No Reserve” project cars. If you did choose to tick the “Birdcage” RPO 0U812 box on the order sheet, you were also required to tick RPO HTZ25BS, The Hartz Mountain 25 lb bag of seed. Very rare option according to my NCRS info and The Corvette Black Book.

Aack!! Holley 6210!! Getting that awful thing off would be a good start for this project.

Could the whole rear clip be custom? – since the rear spoiler is not a separate piece – unless it was molded in? – i see no rear bumper seams.

With the uncovered, square quad headlamps up front, I have to wonder whether some previous owner didn’t start out trying to create a Corvette Summer tribute car, and got sidelined. The headlamp treatment would have been one of the major visual cues from the movie car.

Or something along those lines, but the on the Corvette Summer car were not like this. So if it was attempt at an exact tribute car, it wasn’t a very good one.
