This 1966 Porsche 912 is described as being a highly original, one-family owned vehicle that retains much of its original paint and interior. The 912 shows incredibly well, with the seller noting just a solitary repaint on the passenger fender to repair a scratch. This 912 looks fantastic with just the right level of age baked into the paint. Sitting on pretty Fuchs wheels, it’s hard to believe that a car of this vintage hasn’t emerged with more battle scars present. The seller notes, however, it has led a bit of a charmed life, supposedly living under a car cover since the day it was brought home new from the dealer.
Incredibly, this interior is described as being nearly completely original. The carpets and seats are not new – that’s original carpeting – but a Sony head unit does replace the original radio. To me, what’s more shocking is that the longtime owners didn’t hold onto the factory head unit for inclusion with the sale. A minor nitpick, for sure.
The seller notes all numbers are matching and that the carbs have recently been rebuilt. Other original details include all of the glass and chrome, and mileage is noted as being just 73,000. The luster of the paint at all corners, including under the hood, is impressive, and with a very reasonable reserve already surpassed, this is a truly a special Porsche 912.
Nice car. Don’t get too excited about the lumps on the lower part of the front valance. That’s factory gravel guard sprayed on before painting. They also used the same product on the lower rockers and as a seam sealer in the trunk area. Like all you folks keep saying, taking good care of a car doesn’t really take a lot of effort but it pays off in the end.
I know it’s “only” a 912 but I would still like to drive one just to see what all the fuss is about. Now at $25,600 with 28 hours to go. I just don’t see the rationale but then again I’ve always been reluctant to accept the value proposition of a uber-expensive object.
I’m currently rebuilding a 1968 912, came to me in boxes so I’m literally getting to know every nut and bolt. A few things different in the engine bay – for example the missing trunk lid undertray, electronic box (ignition box ?) on sidewall. Nice car, not sure whether there were originally stickers on the bodywork in the engine bay on the 912, when they are absent (as on mine) on 911 models it usually indicates a repaint. Can’t seem to post a picture of my engine bay.
Paul… there were at last two stickers on the early 912s in the engine compartment. Don’t remember what they were and they usually didn’t last too long.
