Not A Trans Am: 1975 Pontiac Formula

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Pontiac offered 4 versions of the Firebird from 1970-1981 which is considered the 2nd generation Firebird. These included the base Firebird, Esprit, Formula and Trans Am. This 1975 Pontiac Firebird Formula 350 is located in Amityville, New York. It is listed on eBay for an asking price of $26,500. Pontiac offered the Formula in two submodels – Formula 350 and Formula 400. The Formula 455 model was dropped that had been available from 1971-1974. The odometer shows 68,514 miles.

The engine compartment is clean and looks well maintained. The car retains its original Pontiac 350 cubic inch V8 engine and 4 barrel carburetor. The seller states that the car was off the road from 1984 to 2014. The Pontiac 455 which had been available in prior years was now only available in the Trans Am. The 350 cubic inch V8 engine was the low performer and was rated at 175 horsepower. The optional 400 cubic inch engine which was designated as the L78 motor was rated at 185 horsepower.

The interior shows well. The car has a two tone white and blue interior. Options include air conditioning, automatic transmission, rear window defog and a rear spoiler. Someone had add T-Tops because they weren’t available until 1976 and then only on the Trans Am. The blue paint looks original but is acceptable for driving. The seller discloses that the car needs new paint and there is one small rust spot behind the driver side rear tire. The Formula is said to drive well and be in good order.

The Formula 350 rides on factory 15×7 Rally II wheels and aftermarket tires. The paint code appears to be Code 26 Bimini Blue . The dual hood scoops on the Formula always look cool. This is the first year for the wrap around rear window. This looks like a nice driver although it might be priced a little high in today’s market. It can be seen here on eBay and the ad has 19 days remaining.

Added on later or not, t-tops would be a dealbreaker for me and the lack of them in 1975 was a plus. That weight distribution hitch certainly doesnt help either. Beautiful car, though

Agreed. T tops would kill deal, especially aftermarket. T tops were the leisure suits of 70’s cars

I always liked a Formula better than a TA. Much cleaner looking and much better balance.

Great looking car! Those T-tops are interesting. Really surprised that they are on a ‘75? That’s early for t-tops. Looking at the eBay pics, they are t-tops like I have never seen on a Firebird/Trans Am. There is no middle strip of roof material. When Hurst did them there was a wider strip of roof left than the later 2nd gen firebirds/Trans Ams. This car does not have any roof material between the glass panels. Very interesting.

I was watching a 2 part episode of Rockford Files & some1 planted a bomb in the car & it later blew up – but the bird that happened to oddly was a CHROME rear bumpered earlier model!

He was driving a ’74 Esprit ‘Bird if memory serves. Those had chrome bumpers and no hood scoops. Also Hollywood typically used different cars in sequence scenes for editing purposes.
