When your wife is ready for a new car, it’s always a practical consideration to thin your herd one vehicle, creating some quick cash and freeing up a parking space. However, when you’re talking about a 1971 Buick Gran Sport that looks as good as this one here on Craigslist, I might have to think about holding onto my GS and getting an auto loan instead, or maybe even something more drastic, such as a reverse mortgage. It sounds like the couple has already decided to find their Buick a new home, a task that certainly shouldn’t take long, so if you’re ready to be the next owner, this one’s located in Wappingers Falls, New York. Based on the condition, the asking price of $19,000 sounds reasonable for what you’re getting here.
Barn Finds reader T.J. liked this car, too, and we’d like to thank him for sending in the tip! The biggest drawback is the engine, which is a 350 and not the more desirable 455. That said, the drivetrain is still numbers-matching, with a total accumulation of only 77,900 miles since new. In his 23 years of ownership, the seller has only driven the Gran Sport roughly 4,000 miles, so time on the road has been minimal for more than two decades here. It would have been fun to find a 4-speed manual gearbox, but a Turbo 350 takes care of the shifting duties.
The exterior is in excellent condition, with no body filler present that the seller is aware of. There’s no mention of whether the paint and vinyl top are original, but regardless, it is apparent that this one’s been well cared for cosmetically and has been kept in a garage for at least the last 23 years. I couldn’t imagine doing anything here other than preserving the outside and just taking this cool Buick out for an occasional spin.
We don’t get a clear shot of the interior, but the black vinyl seats appear well-preserved, with the instrument cluster still looking decent. Even close-up details, such as the condition of the weather stripping and trim pieces near the driver’s area, seem to validate the high level of love this GS has been given throughout the years. I’m not spotting much to find fault with regarding this 1971 Buick GS. How about you?
Wow, real nice. Looks like the miles are accurate. Can’t go wrong with this one
Wow. Compare this to the 68 Chevelle listed above and my point is made.
Wow, great find. A bit closer to home and I’d be on it.
There are tons of auto delivery companies. Buy it. You deserve it. If your wife’s mad at you buy another car. She’ll still be mad but you’ll have another car.
I agree with Rustytech 100%. Good price compared to to Chevelle and no work needed to drive it and I am a Chevelle guy for 35 years but i think most GM cars ofthat era are cool looking!!
Stephens the 4sp really would have made this one. Beautiful Buick, with the Turbo Hydramatic as well 🙌
Didn’t we have the conversation last week about Buicks and automatic transmissions?
Nice car, not concerned at all with no 4 speed when they are this clean and priced right
Bingo: When they are this clean (!) and priced right.
This is a steal in my world.
Love this Buick, baby.
No surprise it sold already.

Only missing mandatory “BOX CHECK” is A.C. Kind of odd in a way for a 1971 higher end Buick. I guess being old, cruising in a HOT rod (?) just isnt fun anymore. My 1972 GSX has AC and it took me almost $2K to get it blowing snowflakes with 134A.
4000 miles in 23 years is approximately 215 miles, now thats lightly used in my book
Very nice car. Some folks are realistic with asking price. This car will sell but wrong coast for me.
I had a car just like this, mine had buckets and console. I liked it ok but traded it for a 70 Roadrunner 383 4sp. Liked it way more.
At 19k no surprise this sold in 2 minutes…I don’t often say a car is a steal, but this one was for sure…
Absolutely nothing wrong with the 350 either. The ‘70-‘71 Buick 350s were known to be torque monsters with their square bore and stroke and were very fun on the street. Someone got a nice car!
