Numbers Matching FHC: 1958 Jaguar XK150

Few things are prettier than a Jaguar XK coupe, even one that has clearly been sitting idle for years. This XK150 has been under the same ownership since 1959 and was just recently removed from long-term storage. The black with red combo is one of the better looking options for a fixed-head coupe of this era, and the seller is asking $34,750. Find it here on eBay where it’s been listed by Beverly Hills Car Club.

Sellers like the Beverly Hills Car Club should put to rest any doubts that barn find, garage finds, shed finds, and cellar finds still exist. They seemingly get the call every week to extract yet another dusty, forgotten classic from its temporary tomb. Of course, being in California helps, where cars like this XK150 can survive despite years of neglect. The body looks quite straight and the chrome pieces, like the bumpers, don’t look past the point of saving.

While a drop-top XK is seemingly the version Hollywood was obsessed with when these cars were new, I’ll always prefer the coupe. This one doesn’t display the usual signs of outright destruction that might occur if a vintage British coupe is stored out in the elements. The interior looks reasonably intact with matching door panels and trim, and the dashboard shows no signs of major hack-age. I’m sure rodents have found homes in the cozier nooks, but that’s par for the course.

The little details here, like the original spare and jack still with the car, point to an example that was used carefully when new and not disturbed once in storage. While British car fans know all too well the sort of sorcery that is needed to bring one of these back to life, not to mention that replacement parts for a vintage XK150 likely will run you more than your typical MGB, the pay-off is worth it given how many salivating buyers you’ll find wanting to take this off your hands as a running, driving project. That is, of course, if you want to let go of it yourself.

Not much for pictures here but after that ’72 Cutlass this was a nice calming posting. Black on red is always a great color combo and once it is shining it will be stunning. But, and there’s a big but, it will be expensive.

Whenever I see a barn find that is an old English car and the photos are dark because it is still in the barn, or garage, or shipping crate I cannot help but think of Silence of the Lambs. Anyone else?

Depends on what’s in the jar in the back seat…
