On The Road By Spring? 1973 Mustang

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1973 Ford Mustang convertible appears to be a refurbishment project that someone started but never finished. It’s listed for sale here on eBay with a low starting bid of $1,800 and no reserve! The barn it’s in is located in Memphis, Tennessee, and the car is waiting there for you to pick it up and finish it by Spring!

We’re told that the car has been in the same family since new and evidently was the recipient (victim?) of one repaint in something close to the factory color. It looks like the car was being stripped down for another paint job when the project was shelved. However, there were only 11,853 1973 Mustang convertibles produced, and even though emissions controls and weight had both crept into the original pony car, it was a desirable car then and still is now.

There is some rust in both sides at the rocker panels but it’s not horrible.  These 71-73 Mustangs became more popular as prices skyrocketed on the earlier cars and more and more reproduction parts are available. Not only that, they seem very inexpensive!

We’re told the floor and rocker panels are both solid and a close up picture of the rocker panels helps me to feel good about that. We’re told the seats were kept inside safely but will still need to be reupholstered. You can get an entire interior kit here for less than $1,000!

It’s good for us southern US folks to see the air conditioning compressor even though the system will undoubtedly need work. The seller tells us they don’t know if the engine is free or not; assuming for a moment the car wasn’t taken off the road for some catastrophic engine failure I’ve got a lot of confidence that even if it is, it could be freed up in a week or two of soaking with your favorite solution. All in all, this seems to be a very refurbishable American convertible that you could have ready to roll by next Spring. What say you, readers?

well its sold by the looks of it. The leaves and trash on the engine?? are you kidding me?? Kinda screams flood damage?? Maybe somebody got a hot deal for 1800. Good luck to the new owner.

no bids, bidding ended on 12/14. minimum bid was to high, should have started at $100.00 and hoped for the best offer.
