One-Family Owned – 1964 Chevrolet Truck

This 1964 Chevrolet LWB pickup is being sold by the grandson of the original owner. It is located in Tacoma, Washington and will need restoration work to get it into safe operating condition. Gunter Kramer sent us the link. The seller has the truck listed here on Craigslist and after 19 days, the truck is still listed. The seller states that the truck has not been run in several years and needs tires and at least a new battery. The asking price for this project truck is $6,500 which might explain why it has not sold yet. In a few years, this might seem like a good deal but the truck needs a lot of work.

The seller is not sure if it is a C10 or C20 which is the difference between a 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton truck. The badges on the truck appear to indicate a C10 Chevrolet 1/2 ton pickup. The truck has manual steering and brakes. The seller had planned to restore and keep the truck but does not have the time or money to do so. He is asking that no one consider low balling his price as there is a lot of sentimental value to this truck for his family.

The 1st generation of the C10 pickup by Chevrolet was built from 1960-66.  The C designation (C10) was for two wheel drive and the K designation (K10) was the 4WD version. The pickup could be ordered in a base or upmarket “Custom” option with more chrome. Either version was available as either a smooth fleetside or fendered Stepside. It had a front independent suspension, so rode very well for a pickup at that time.

In 1964, Chevrolet offered inline sixcylinder engines in 230 and 292 cubic inch sizes in its C10 truck, as well as the alternative of a 283 cubic inch V8 engine. The pictures of the truck in the ad are not very good and there is no mention of the engine displacement or pictures of the interior or undercarriage. This one might be sitting a while unless something change with the price or condition.

Huh, quite the human interest story there, sure shut my mouth. When I was a kid, the old man, who hated trucks, every once in a while needed a pickup. Me and my brother both cringed when he borrowed a mason buddys green Chevy pickup like this, because some crap job was in store. I’m not too teary eyed with the story, if that WAS gramps and his truck, sadly, the only picture NOT shown here, they sure let it rot. Fact is, I’m appalled, but yeah, yeah, life,,and such. The way gramps had it, no problem on the price. As is, nice try.

The number 10 is clearly legible under the bowtie on the fender. It hasn’t sold yet because it’s a longbed. A shortbed would have sold in a day. It’s alot of work to cut the bed down to shortbed dimensions.

Pics really suck.No engine or inner bed pics w/o junk in it. I like long beds but shorts are more desirable to folks and bring more $.Saw the ad and if I was going to inherit the truck and it’s so important to the family at the very least I’d get it out of the elements or at least on a hard surface not mud and drive it once in a while.Get it running and put a used tire on it to get it road worthy at least . This is a 2 2500 truck maybe imo with the pics and info given.

Price is not bad for what it is this is a decent truck I think the only reason it hasn’t sold is the limited market of Craigslist if he had it posted here where it will get international attention it would have sold already

The 292 six was not available in this small of a truck, that was for 2 ton and above

If you don’t want the price lo-balled lower the price . Sentimental value is in the eye of the seller not the buyer.
Non runner with four flat tires? Possible rust underneath ?
$1K to $1.5K is about what this one’s condition seems to indicate.

Agree with George: if this has “sentimental value” then why would you sell it??? Maybe gramps got his first “kiss” in it!

If this truck has been parked where it is ‘for several years’ the underside will be solid rust. Metal becomes a rust sponge when sitting over dirt for any length of time. Being a LWB rust bucket, this truck will likely not sell for much more than parts.

    I agree with RIX260.
This truck looks like it has sunk in the ground almost to the frame or very close.
    Lots of rust now…

Although not the same year as this one, my Dad had a 1962 which looked very similar. It too was green.
Although nowhere near 16 years old yet, I learned how to drive in the 62 Chevy pickup, three on the tree, six cylinder.
I love Barn Finds, if for no other reason than many trips down memory lane!

This truck is quickly becoming one with the earth. I hope it finds a good home sooner rather than later.

I might be nuts but to me this is an overpriced lump. Right now where I live is a fancy version with all the extra trim, a nice set of wheels, slightly rumbly V8 for 10k. The truck has lived salt free and is just nice. You couldn’t make this into the aforementioned one for twice the 10k price. Lots of overhyped stuff out there as every old thing is a lotto jackpot right now. Doubtful a local will pay that and from afar it becomes a logistic money pit even before the rebuild or whatever begins.
