One Of 30 (Or 50): 1942 Crosley Liberty Sedan

l1

Depending on which source you look at, this is either one of 30 or 50 1942 Crosley Liberty sedans produced in the first two months of 1942. World War II intervened and production was shut down. For those not familiar with the Crosley, it was an economy car before economy cars were commonplace. This particular one is located in Reno, Nevada and is up for sale here on eBay. I’m guessing that is the original 35 cubic inch two-cylinder Waukesha engine sitting there in front of the little car. It has a clean title and is mostly solid, although there are some floors that will need replacement. I can’t say I’m fond of it’s appearance; I like the later Crosleys much better; but this is certainly the only one I’ve ever seen for sale. I’ll bet you could transport it in the bed of a pickup truck! Thanks goes to Matt K., Robert R., and Peter R. for sending this in!

Since this car is pre-war, hopefully that means the engine is NOT one of Crosley’s COBRA (brazed copper) engines. That would add a completely new dimension to the restoration…

The two cylinder horizontally opposed air cooled engine is shown in the Tiny Engine photo. It appears to have a damaged (broken) intake manifold on right side of engine. No copper brazing prewar.

See engine photos in Hemmings advert for restored car:

        The engine is a cast-iron 35 c.i. Waukesha Cub 150 air-cooled opposed twin.

What is the saying…”A FACE ONLY A MOTHER COULD LIVE”? here it is…
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but what would possess anyone to pay 2500 for this ass-ugly little car? lol…whatever

I guess everyone has their own version of what is “restorable” and what is not. My version would have to lean towards the “not” side of pendulum.
    “Not” worth the time.
    “Not” worth the money.
    “Not” worth the headaches.
“Not” worth ____________. (you fill in the blank)

What it needs is to be recognized and remembered as a part of automotive history.
