There are numerous subcultures in the hobby car universe, and most of them make sense as to why they exist. But the desire to convert big luxury cars into pickup trucks is one I’ve never quite understood. Flower cars, funeral cars, courier vehicles – those all make some level of sense to me. But given we live in a country where the Lincoln Blackwood exists, it should come as no surprise that we’ve always had a mild fascination with luxury vehicles that can haul. This 1978 Lincoln Continental is doing its best impression of an El Camino, and for what it’s worth, it appears to be quite well done. Find it here on Facebook Marketplace with an asking price of $7,500.
There’s not a lot of information out there about this conversion; in fact, in my quick Googling, I only found one solitary reference to a photo that showed someone had converted a four-door Lincoln into a pickup that didn’t look nearly as well done as this cut-up coupe. The coupe body obviously is a much better basis for a conversion like this, and while it’s impossible to tell anything from this side of the monitor, the bodywork looks pretty tidy. You can see the original builder preserved the roofline of the Continental coupe and simply cut in through the back glass and rear passenger compartment, which was a pretty useless space to begin with.
Given the front seats appear to be a very nice velour as opposed to high-end leather, it doesn’t seem like a total loss that the backseat had to be removed. The question I always have with conversions like these is what were they starting with – a roached-out car, or a pretty nice example? It would seem a shame to cut up one that was already in good shape; then again, why bother trying to make a ratty one into a luxurious pickup? I could see a tired example looking pretty awful in no time if it had a pickup bed hanging off of it. Regardless, this looks like it was an example in decent shape, to begin with, so hopefully, the next owner will find a worthwhile donor was used for the conversion.
The seller, sadly, provides very little information about the Lincoln itself, simply noting that it has power windows and air conditioning. Hopefully, in the midst of all the bodywork, time was taken to swap out the belts or replace the consumables on the cooling system, like the water pump and the thermostat. The one detail that hasn’t been addressed is whether or not there’s a cover for the opening that’s been cut into the roof. I can’t imagine going through all that work and then only having a car that’s good for use on sunny days, but I suppose everyone gets to a point in a project where you just want it done and can live with some compromises. Would you drive a custom converted Lincoln like this?
Well, I suppose someone had to do it . .
Since someone has already altered this car I would consider installing a 6.0 power stroke alone with its 5R110 transmission. That way you will have the complete package of a truck that hauls, tows, and gets better fuel economy. And you ask it it fits a local kid where I live stuffed one on a Panther chassis Crown Vic with no hood alterations. I think it would be a hoot in stock tune with 525ft.lbs of twist.
Nicely appointed rear seat for extracurricular activities
Lincoln Ranchinental? No. Lincoln Continero? No. Lincoln El Contimino? No. Lincoln El Caminental? No. I am going to have to say the no’s have it on this one. Sorry.

Not willing to join F-Book to buy or even look.
I think you can actually look at the Facebook ads without being signed in now, at least I can. You can’t contact the seller though. We’ve actually been trying to figure out how we can let people contact Facebook sellers through the site without using Facebook. Unfortunately, lots of people have left craigslist for Facebook, which really is a shame.
I’ll never have anything to do with fecal book, but everyone knows someone who does, so have them contact the seller and see if they can get a phone number or email to make contact. I’ve done that.
i like it
Im pretty sure I saw this car at the Kruse Auction in Auburn, IN sometime around 2005-2008. If it wasnt the same car somebody was doing conversions with the same diamond plate and wood bed.
Rather have a Cadillac Caribou.

The smaller black one with the oversized rear tires from the 90’s was a better looking/sized one
No need to join Fakebook. When siting at a traffic light that just turned green & there’s a car sitting in front of you, oblivious to the change, get out, walk up to them & have them get the number as they are probably Facebooking.
The sad reality of this age of phone zombies
Is this one of Gene Winfield’s? He built some for a conversion company.
I like and want it, but it goes along well with my hybrid redneck/ghetto taste lol
