One Of A Kind: Willys Fire Truck

Willy's Fire truck

There’s no information provided on the this odd little fire truck listed here on craigslist. It’s in Kimball, MN with an asking of $4500. It’s also listed on eWillys.com. I couldn’t find any information on it. There are lots of Jeep based firetrucks but nothing like this one. Perhaps it was a one off custom based on a jeep. It runs and drives. Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Could this have been for a specialized military use, like on a carrier deck?

Since there are no other pictures on how the fire equipment is mounted, I think this may have been an airport baggage/airplane tug, and it was converted to a fire truck at some time ( I think that’s a water tank behind the passenger seat). The shape looks a lot like those airport tugs,( although, I can’t find any like this, but very similar) and the 4 wheel drive would back that up. ( pun intended)

Never seen anything like it. Wish there were more pics, particularly of any ID plates. It will be interesting to follow the thread on that Jeep board and see what they say…

Since the seller posted it on the Willys web site one would presume he knows what hes talking about and that it is a Willys. On the other hand…no pix, no info, no nada…..so you have to wonder. Kind of looks like a vehicle that would have been used in a factory to run down the aisles if there was a fire in the equipment…like an airplane factory or something

Could have been used as a fire apparatus in the plant. Repurposing vehicles for ‘yard duty’ has always been common. In fact that is how the VW Bus was created.

Judging by the paint overspray on the wheels and what looks like a lift gate mounted to the rear of this little thing, I’m guessing a former life as a luggage carrier or factory shuttle. Maybe the engine under the hood is a obvious Willys transplant?
