Originally found in Maryland with its original family, this one owner Chevrolet spent many years stored away in a barn until meeting its current resting place. Rather complete, but in need of repair, this pickup has great styling and could be the perfect project for someone. With a couple of days remaining in the auction, bidding has risen to $3,550. Take a look at it here on eBay out of Christiana, Pennsylvania.
The inline 6 has been dormant since 1998 when the original owner passed away. The current owner has made no attempt to start the engine, but it sounds like this truck was not prepared for long term storage based on the circumstances. Although I have seen some lucky engines take well to a splash of oil and a slow hand turn of the crank. Also I am sure the brake system, fuel system, and cooling system are a wreck by this time, but what fun is a project if it needs nothing?
Although dusty and dirty, the interior appears in fair shape. The passenger side door panel was completely ripped off at some point, but the crucial interior hardware is still in place. There are a couple of cringe worthy factors to this old pickup. Heavy rot is present on the interior portion of the fender wells into the side walls of the foot area. A bit scary to some, this rust raises a brow to question what the overall condition of this truck may be.
Currently silver, the seller mentions that this truck was painted with a rust inhibitor, which I would assume to be POR15. I would also assume that the truck was likely completely covered in surface rust. If that is indeed POR15, then the next owner is going to have a field day with removing that paint. As a whole the metal work is quite straight with a few minor dents and dings to be found. There is some rot in the side walls of the bed where the side wall meets the rear fenders. Also you can see rot on the bottom of the cab just after the front fender and on driver rear cab corner. Despite its issues, this Chevrolet could be revived and enjoyed for those comfortable enough with performing metal work. Would you give this Chevrolet a chance?
Real nice. Rust confirms that it will need to go through a restoration. Can be lots of fun though. First year of the one-piece windshield. For those who are squeamish about the old babbit/splash systems of earlier times, this engine should set your mind at ease. Full pressure lube and insert bearings….
Little too far gone to peak my interest for that kind of money.
Maybe a bit steep on the price, but a least it’s complete, repairable and usable. Same old thing, you gonna drive this 60 miles one way to work everyday, or a slow ride to the grocery store on the weekend. That would dictate what you want for a drivetrain. Great find.
Once again this is NOT a one owner truck. Original(1) current owner (2) aka flipper. Why not say” I bought this truck from original?”
My dad had a 54 he bought used in 58. It had a 216 ci 6 with granny 4 speed. The engine went bad around 61 so a 235 was swapped in. It was a nice truck until my brother rolled it. The truck was totaled my brother was unhurt. Pop then bought a 61.
Actually, the last year for the 216 was 1953. The 235 became the standard engine in Chevy trucks in 1954.
The first thing I thought when I saw this truck was, looks like someone painted this thing with some silver rust inhibiter paint like they use on propane tanks and metal roofs. What do you know I was on the money. LOL. POR15 would be a step up.
Love the basic truck…just not this one. I would have to have much deeper pockets.
