You better act quickly before this one is gone. This beauty is a one owner 1974 Chevrolet Monte Carlo here on eBay. There are only 12 hours remaining in the auction and the car is bid to $7,500. The car is rust free and located in Whittier, California.
The car presents as a pristine example with a dark tan exterior and white interior. The front power bench seat looks to be in excellent shape with no rips or tears. The car has been maintained and garage kept by the seller’s grandfather since new. The odometer is showing 76,098 miles.
The engine compartment looks like it has been professionally cleaned and the car is propelled by a Chevrolet 350 cubic inch V8 engine. The 2 barrel 350 cid engine delivered 145 horsepower in 1974. This car was said to be repainted three years ago and the tires have less than 100 miles on them.
I have always liked these factory Chevrolet wheels. How often do you see a blue plate Monte Carlo in this condition? Chevrolet built a lot of Monte Carlos and my friend, Troy, had one in high school. He dropped a 4.11 rear end in it which was great for burning rubber at every stop sign. So, would you stop and give this car some time at a car show?
Oh yes .. why not check out this stylish Colonnade? Funny how the Chevelle/Malibu/El Camino get all the attention from this era, but it was the Monte that owned the streets with the formal roof line in Chevy’s Colonnade crew. That engine or valve covers may be a replacement. Goodwrench label and covers look newer .. 80’s – 90’s. Sharp car, minor tweaking and a great runner.
Since it was sold new in California, this car originally had the California emissions required 160 horse 350 4-barrel, according to its buildsheet.
Someone got a sweet 70s cruiser at $7.700. I especially like its colors are typical for its era. Great pre-smog find with lots of potential! 👍
Not pre-smog…that’s why the 350 is so anemic. The smog era, some believe, began with the widespread use of Positive Crankcase Ventilation valves. Before that, a road draft tube was the way to ventilate blow-by gases from the crankcase. This car should have the AIR pump and possibly an EGR valve as well as a compression ratio somewhere around 8.5:1.
But…does it have the infamous seat belt interlock, or was that on 1975 cars?
Seat belt interlocks were on ’74s, tho i don’t see the override switch under the hood.
PCV valves do not reduce performance & i approve of them. Didn’t like a faceful of smoke when idling in my ’60 comet whose engine was beat. lol
PCVs were on all cars(including high compression muscle ones) from the mid 1960s onward – maybe earlier on Calif cars.
This replacement 350 could be more powerful than stock, depending on the cam in it now, etc. Not many people would bother reinstalling egr & air pump on a crate engine – many in fact disabled them when cars were new.
These were smogged to death. They were a plumber’s nightmare under the hood.
I like this better than the 77 on here.
May well be worth it, but my eyes immediately noted no “Monte Carlo” front fender nameplates; no “Landau” emblems on the roof; no opera window moldings. Those things all slap me in the face.
I think a rare thing about ’74 Landaus is that they are the only Landaus I have ever seen in person that could be had with the Rally Wheels. The more-expensive Turbine I wheels were standard. Friends had one built in Oshawa, Ontario, that showed a $68.00 credit for the Rally Wheels, which made me think the Turbines weren’t available for some reason for a time.
Thats a sweet deal at 7700. Its in fantastic shape. Im kinda lusting. A lot.
1974 was the yr of the seatbelt interlock, my brother had a 74 Delta 88, and we unplugged a sensor under the drivers seat, and he would lift himself off the seat and turn the key and the car started w/o the seatbelts on, back to this car, much nicer than that plain Jane 77, this was the prom date car, power everything, nice car for 7700.00 someone got real lucky
Nice car. I worked on Chevys of this era when NEW. All V 8s came with EGR starting with 73 model year. I have a 73 Corvette. It came from St Louis with EGR and A.I.R., which is the proper name for smog pump. California models would all have EGR in 74. But last real dual exhaust Montes were built in 74. 75 saw the single exhaust with catalytic converter.
Nice MC, but really prefer the very 1st year: 1970……Pop bought one new & 10 yrs. later it became my 1st car. Never had any major problems, just the usual maintenance and wear items replaced. Astro blue.
