One-Owner Turbo: 1987 Buick Grand National

There are many ways to sell a car. You can park it on a busy corner with a for sale sign, you can list it online, you can post it on a Facebook enthusiast page or you can consign it to a dealer. This 1987 Buick Regal Grand National has been listed here on Facebook for over a year and has not sold. Can you guess why? Well, car is claimed to be a one owner 51k mile car. It is said to be original except for the wheels and tires. Check out the pictures or lack thereof and that may answer the question. The car is located in Santa Paula, California and the seller is asking a whopping $65,000.

The interior looks nice but with towels on the seats and pictures of the car outside, it might raise a question to its condition. All Buick Grand Nationals came with a black and grey interior with buckets seats and a console. The famous turbo insignia is embroidered on the head rests. The seller states that this Grand National starts and runs. However, there is not much more information than that for a car priced above market. Every Grand National enthusiast knows that these cars need to be driven regularly and there is no history on the car and whether it was maintained or just parked.

Besides the sinister looks of the Grand National, the heart of this car is the 3.8-liter turbo V6 that received an intercooler the prior year. Buick advertised the factory horsepower at 245 hp and well over 300 lb ft of torque. Most enthusiast who have owned or driven these cars believe that the actual horsepower figure is considerably higher. All 1987 Grand National engines were mated to a four-speed THM200-4R automatic transmission. Initial road tests in magazines published a ¼-mile trip at 14.7 seconds.

The seller states that they have changed the oil, gas tank and front tires. While those are good things, these cars sell for top dollar when they are original, well maintained and garaged. It is hard to tell from the pictures on the condition of the paint but being a California car, maybe it is in good shape. The picture of the hood being held open with a 2 x 4 doesn’t add value!

I believe it is closer to 40K overpriced. This quite simply is not a very nice example of a GN.

51k hard miles with minimum care. This is a $25k unit and only then after a thorough inspection.

    Not a bad idea.

You have something desirable and place a free ad with no expiration date, with an outrageous price.
You continue to enjoy the item, and maybe you get lucky and someone reaches out to buy it.

Whenever i get the urge to spend $65 large ones , (and i don’t have that kind of money for a car) i do my research and get my money’s worth and this not worth it …
