Only 29K Miles: 1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

In 1976, the Chevrolet Monte Carlo was riding high with sales of 353,272, but that figure would be outdone in 1977 with 411,038 which only had a slight grille and taillight change from the 1976 models. Here is a 1976 Chevrolet Monte Carlo for sale here on Craigslist in Atlanta, Georgia. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Ricky M. for letting us know about this one.

This car has been stored since the nineties, but it looks like it had a few instances while it was on the road prior to that. There is a dent near the left front grille area that damaged the header area and the grille slightly. Also, the right side front fender has a sizable gash in it, and the paint is suffering on the right front fender edge of the car. Also, one of the bumper guards is lacking its rub strip. Other than that, it appears to be in pretty good shape. There is no rust anywhere. It is finished in burgundy with a burgundy full vinyl roof.

This is the standard interior for the 1976 Monte Carlo with knit cloth bench seat up front. The interior is clean and in good condition with no cracks in the dash and no tears on the seats. It does appear to be some wrinkling on the bottom of the front seat, but that may be due to something being stored on the seat. The original radio is still in the car.

The seller does not indicate what the engine size is. The standard engine was a 305 cubic inch 2 barrel, with a 350 2 or 4 barrel and a 400 4 barrel available. Engine horsepower ranged anywhere from 140 to 175. The Monte Carlo has only 29,302 miles. This is one of those buyers that may not know what his/her car is worth because they are asking $1 so that normally means they are up for offers. What do you think it’s worth and is it something that appeals to you?

Looks like the right fender was repainted. It looks darker than the rest of the car to these older eyes.

A friend of mine has a ’70 Monte with the Turbo-Jet 400 (the big block 402, not the small block 400.) It belonged to his late father, and it’s sitting in the back yard covered by a tarp. It’s a shame he won’t do anything with it, or part with it, either.

I like 70s Montes. I’ll take one over a Ford or a Mopar of the same era any day of the week.

My opinion, terrible to post for $1, what is the point….to get the highest bidder…? I would suggest an ebay auction …..right?

I am interested in the car but don’t have time to jerk around. Tell me what you want and…..OH and get some photos of the undercarriage.

Door gap on passenger door at the quarter panel is NOT good.

Even with supposedly so few miles, the front seat didn’t hold up to well.

I had a 75 Monte Carlo….. Worst piece of crap that I eveowned….. Every time I cranked it up, something either fell off of it or flew out from under it… It was a sharp ride….pearl white, black interior, craiger mags with spinners. But it was a major lemon….. Traded it in on a new 82 TBird….

That’s an awful lot of battle scars for 29k miles.
