From its rust-free body to its tidy interior, it is a stunning vehicle guaranteed to turn heads. Its original drivetrain combination means it possesses the performance to match its good looks. It needs a new home, so the owner has listed it for sale here on eBay. The El Camino is located in Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, where the bidding has raced past the reserve to $22,522.

Chevrolet launched the Second Generation El Camino in 1964, basing it upon the Chevelle platform. The new model brought significant styling changes that gave the vehicle a more modern appearance. The 1965 model year saw evolutionary styling changes and a new high-performance engine. This vehicle rolled off the line wearing Ermine White, which presents exceptionally well for a vehicle of this type and age. The paint shines impressively, with no significant flaws or issues. It cloaks panels that are as straight as an arrow and are free from dings, dents, and bruises. The highlight is the bed, which has no signs of abuse, scrapes, or other problems. The seller states that the El Camino is garage-kept, making its rust-free status no surprise. The chrome and glass are in good order, while the steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps are in keeping with this classic’s character.

I’ve been casting a critical eye across the supplied photos, searching for a flaw with this El Camino, and there aren’t many worth mentioning. It looks like there may be a stain on the driver’s side of the seat that is visible in this shot, but that is one of the few issues across the entire vehicle. Otherwise, there are no rips, wear, or signs of abuse or neglect. The dash and carpet are excellent, as is the wheel. The original owner didn’t load it with optional extras, but it appears to feature a pushbutton radio and a dash-mounted factory clock.

Lighter pickups like this 1965 El Camino are wonderfully versatile vehicles, although, because of its spotless presentation and age, I suspect this one will never see hard work again. These classics are also lighter than the sedans upon which they are based, which means they can use their available power more effectively to provide impressive performance. I find the lack of significant bidding action surprising, with only nine submitted at the time of writing. Maybe the action will heat up as the auction draws to its conclusion. Given its overall condition and drivetrain configuration, I would expect the price tops $30,000 before proceedings end. It could represent an excellent buy for the right person if it sells for less.     I love El Camino’s, and this is a pretty nice example of a 65, but it has some issues.

    The dash and heater box are air conditioning pieces, indicating that maybe it was originally equipped with factory AC? There’s no compressor, brackets, lines, etc, but the evaporator/heater box is still there, and the center vent in the dash cluster is an AC only item. Not a big deal, but the radio looks like a Custom Autosound or similar modern aftermarket radio, and not the original Delco.

    Unfortunately, someone’s given the engine compartment a quick rattle can restoration. The engine’s showing orange overspray on the hoses, clamps, etc, and the rest of the engine compartment, including the booster, wiper motor, hoses, belts and everything else, was given a one coat covers all shot of black paint. You have to wonder what other short cuts have been taken for a quick sale?

    I’m always tempted by any El Camino, and especially a 4 speed, AC, PS, PB one. Being only an hour from me makes it even more tempting, but some of the things I see leave me a little hesitant.

    My bachelor Uncle Ed bought a new white ’65 327/4 speed. He used to let us nephews/nieces borrow/hot rod it! My cousin owns it now.

    I think the mileage is higher than 44000 the brake peddle and gas peddle show excessive wear. The radio looks to be an am/fm the top bar moves back and forth to change. The dash knobs look like they have seen lot of weathering , maybe from a salvage yard car?close up dash looks old. Was definitely A/C car when new. Still good looking car to just drive and Finnish as you like.

    Also has a tilt wheel and HAD a remote mirror (mirror still looks like it’s there, but the control is just a hole in the door panel), which are both unusual Chevelle options. The comment about the original owner not adding a lot of equipment was ill-placed. The only things I see it DOESN’T have are buckets, ‘wood wheel’, and PW (and a compressor for the AC).

      Again, Adam assumes it was a special ordered car , and while this has options
      many El Caminos dont have, it cant be assumed someone special ordered it. Dealers stock ordered different things for their cars, hoping the right combo would suit a prospective customer. Its also is pushing 60 years old ; it could have had a dozen owners in that time, and each one could have added options like a clock or even power brakes .My cousin has a 70 Nova that was a base 307 car, but now has a 350, P/S ,power disc brakes , tinted glass and a deluxe interior , none of which came with the car, but are all original GM parts. the “original owner” ordered none of it, but unless you have and can decode the order sheet, you would have no idea the parts weren’t original to the car or if it was a special ordered car

    I like it… a lot! with a little cleaning and detailing, restore the AC, some under-hood cleanup, this could be nice. A factory shifter on the 4 speed, 12 bolt 3:31 positraction, and a rev-happy 327 sounds like a blast to me. I always liked the optional clock mounting, maybe installing a factory style tach or a complete Dakota Digital RTX gauge setup would be sweet. I installed on in my 70 SS396 Elco last year. I wonder if my 70 would like to have an older sibling?
