In the ’60s, Ford was rolling out some of the most incredible designs on the market. The Galaxie 500 is undoubtedly one of them. The 500s were a higher trim level designed to be luxurious and quick. The example at hand is said to be powered by its original 406 engine and is for sale here for craigslist in Pismo Beach, California, for $25,500.
The exterior is finished in the car’s original black and is said to have patina. The car has had two owners and appears to have been looked after correctly. The car’s abundant chrome seems to be in decent condition. It was in storage for 30 years, so some age-related decay should be expected. The car has new tires installed.
There aren’t any full shots of the interior in the ad, but the carpets appear to be in good condition. The interior is finished in red and currently has bucket seats installed. The bench seat is said to come with the car. The carpet is original, though according to the seller, a new carpet is available to be installed. From the sound of it, the interior is in good condition but has room for improvement if the next owner wishes to do so.
The original B code 406 cubic inch V8 engine sends power to the wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission. When the seller pulled the car out of storage last year, they changed the battery and the fluids. They installed a new gas tank, cleaned the lines, and primed the carburetor. The car started up afterward and is said to drive and shift smoothly. This is a great option for someone who wants a largely original Galaxie in good mechanical condition. The car could use some love before it is show-ready, but it is in good shape. If you’d like to call this classic 1963 Ford Galaxie yours, contact the seller on craigslist.
Very odd looking hood pins, strange placement as well. Pop installed hood pins on my 1964 Ford Galaxie, they were on the top cross rail in front of these and spread much farther apart. They also had locking pins that went through the hood pin posts. Nevertheless, this is one fine looking Ford muscle car, the owner is right, it should haul a**. Especially with the 3:50 gearing.
Ford made a few rocket 🚀 “lightweight” versions of this model for the dragstrip. With the 427ci.
Won Nascar in 63′ too. 🏆 🏁
Nice ride with set u back in the seat power! 4 speed must be a hoot to hammer on. Price is reasonable in my opinion. Buy it and enjoy it.
Someone buy it before it gets burned up.
Those look like fake stick on hood pins,we had them on our 59 Dodge skool bus camper conversion in the 70s.
Talk about a time machine! Buy it, drive it, and cherish it for what it is.
Ode skool. Looks like a blast. Great colors. Roll down the windows, turn up the tunes and let your hair fly.
I’m a GM guy thru and thru, but I have always had a soft spot for certain Fords, and this is one of them. Would be cooler with the 405 horse motor, but still a pretty cool car for what appears to be a fairly reasonable price.
385hp nothing to sneeze at!
True fact, but you have to admit that 3 2s are cool.
Oh back in around 1968 a co-worker friend had one just like this. It was fast but drank gas by the gallons. I suppose that’s why he didn’t keep it very long. As someone said these cars were dynamite at the oval tracks with the 427. But don’t think that 406 won’t move this car in a hurry. It will snap your head back with a mighty roar while slamming through those gears. It’s my hope that the buyer of this car will respect it for what it is; a great representation of the early 60’s speed machines.
God Bless America
Very cool “snapshot in time” car. This is what’s affectionately called a “Boxtop”. They were only made in late ‘62. About the beginning of ‘63, the “63 1/2” came out with the sloped rear window. Likewise, the 406 was only made for a short time. Awesome find!
Nice time capsule. It doesn’t seem so long ago when we’d see these bash off against 409s, 413s and 421s at the drags. This looks like a really solid Ford and $25.5 is reasonable.
Unsurprisingly it’s gone.
A college buddy of mine had a 61 like this. That car would rip.
