This 1987 Ford F-250 pickup looks like a proper survivor, still wearing original paint and appearing to be free of major modifications or alterations outside of a front push bar. The F-250 is equipped with the thirsty and powerful 460 V8, and as a 2WD model with the factory towing package, you can bet this truck is ready to haul the single car trailer and track car of your dreams. The mileage is fairly low at just 108,000 and the condition inside and out suggests years of careful ownership. The Ford is listed here on eBay in Nampa, Idaho with bids sitting at $5,200 and no reserve.

Now, I can’t say for sure that this truck deserves to break $10,000, but I suppose it depends on how the bidders plan to use it. The 460 is a powerful and reliable engine, but when towing, it’s known to deliver fuel economy in the single digits. So, the question becomes will you use it as God intended, and put it through its paces as a true towing rig while living with the abysmal fuel economy, or simply use it as an in-town errand runner, enjoying the clean black paint that’s said to be original and the well-appointed interior which includes options like power windows and locks?

If you spend any time at all either retrieving project cars or bringing an unregistered vehicle in for emissions or dyno testing, you know how useful a good truck and trailer combo can be. And while the 460-equipped/2WD F-250 is a known weapon of choice for hauling, this particular truck looks nice enough inside to be tempted by it even if you don’t intend to tow anything. The interior shows essentially no flaws and wear-and-tear is essentially nil. If you’ve been looking for a vintage F-Series truck in clean condition with no reserve, the lousy fuel economy may not even register as a concern.

As far as the original paint claims go, it’s hard to believe this truck’s finish still looks this good. Maintenance history would be good to have, because while the 460 is a known quantity, you still want to see details like routine transmission fluid flushes which would suggest attentive upkeep while being used as a hauler. Of course, if it’s never been put to work towing, there’s far less to be concerned about, as the 3-speed C6 automatic transmission is known to be a robust unit. The Ford is equipped with other desirable features like dual fuel tanks, factory sway bars, power steering, air conditioning and more, and looks like a fair deal in a no reserve auction.

460, tow pkg, A/C, dual tanks. Hook up the camper or trailer and head out.
These are / were awsome tow vehicles. 460 C6 auto is a bullet proof combo. I’m thinking with how nice the interior is, this was not a work truck or a commuter probably did pull a camper back when it was new and was just used for that. Black with a blue interior looks nice together. Jeff hit the nail on the head calling this a survivor I couldn’t agree more. The paint looks terrific, especially if its original. Nice write up Jeff, thank you.
