Original Paint: 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

While some cars are exceptionally average, there’s nothing wrong with piloting a survivor-grade example of an 80s legend like this 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. Barn Finds reader Jack M. spotted this creampuff, which the seller claims just turned over 90,000 miles. It certainly looks the part of a grandma-driven garage find, and is listed here on craigslist in Cape Coral, Florida for $6,500.

Florida is a treasure trove of vehicles like this, nothing particularly special other than trying to remember the last time you saw one this nice. It bears the typical battle scars of an older driver, like the aerial antenna bent out of whack, clearly due to an innocent tangle with a low-hanging obstacle. The hubcaps are all present and accounted for and the body otherwise appears to be in excellent cosmetic condition.

While an eight-cylinder mill may sound robust, it really wasn’t; you bought a car like this for the high degree of comfort and easy cruising. It will look right at home on the left lane of a Florida interstate, riding along at 10-15 m.p.h. below the posted speed limit. The turn signal will be on as well, signalling plants to make an eventual left turn – somewhere.

The cushy seats look like they’ve barely been touched, perhaps only by the occasional visit from the grandchildren. While the Cutlass Supreme is thoroughly forgettable today, it was likely a prized purchase by the previous owner when they were younger and perhaps even thought of themselves as fashionable. Hopefully, this Cutlass remains in the excellent cosmetic condition it’s somehow survived in for all of these years and don’t end up in the hands of an unappreciative owner.

Reminds me of the 84 the X got in the divorce. Great driving car.

A friend of mine bought one of these with extremely low mileage for a song about ten years ago and is still driving it, a bulletproof old grandpas car for sure! When I started working as a surveyor an old timer gave me some sage advice. When you’re standing in an intersection and you see nothing more than a tweed hat, a set of knuckles and a Buick badge coming at you, jump into the ditch.

Wow…what a blast from the past! I owned a 1988 Supreme Classic almost identical….all white but mine had red interior, an astro roof and chrome super stock rims…..fantastic car!

My wife’s aunt has an ’87 exactly like this sitting in her garage. Has been sitting for 20+ years, and was put away wet. 76k miles. No rust. Really a shame to see it just sitting there.

Dan, is that Cutlass going to be for sale any time soon?

PJ, no idea…. Unfortunately, my wife’s Aunt is in a nursing home permanently and isn’t yet at the point where she wants to make any decisions about her house and stuff….. I’ve tried to get an idea of it’s value in a couple of G-body forums but haven’t had much luck. I have a bunch of pics if you’re interested.
