The Super Bee was Dodge’s equivalent of the budget-minded Plymouth Road Runner. It debuted in 1968 but only enjoyed a 4-year run. Like the Road Runner, which was based on the Belvedere, the Super Bee was a Coronet under the skin. This ’69 edition is a “paint-ready project,” meaning that the seller has done all of the body work, so you don’t have to. It will still need to be mechanically restored. Located in Magnolia, Texas, this motivated Mopar is available here on eBay for $35,900. Kudos for the tip, “Curvette”!

We understand the Super Bee got its name as being a fast version of Chrysler’s B-bodied muscle car. Like the Road Runner that came a few months earlier, the Super Bee came with a 383 cubic inch Magnum V8 as standard fare, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission. A huge plus in this car’s favor is that its numbers matching so the buyer will not have to replace key items like the engine or tranny. The Super Bee did not keep pace with the Road Runner in terms of sales, at 3,427 hardtops with the drivetrain pair this machine has. You could get a ’69 Super Bee with a 440 6-Pack or a 426 Hemi, but the number of takers was relatively few.

Besides its original powertrain that needs redoing, this Super Bee comes with the desirable N96 Ram Charger hood. All the rusted panels and pieces have been replaced or redone already, so the Dodge should be ready for a new coat of B5 Bright Blue paint. Since the cowl tag has survived (no mention of a broadcast sheet), you should be able to mostly replicate the muscle car back to its original form. The bucket seat interior is part of the to-do list. A white vinyl top could be reapplied if you want it to be 100% correct.

If you consider the asking price to be high for a project, consider what it may have cost you to get the car to the point it is right now. That appears to be the seller’s business, rescuing desirable cars and taking care of the bodywork so the buyer will be one step closer to fruition. The photos provided may be a combination of before, during, and after the car’s stay in their shop. Lots of loose parts abound, but the automobile isn’t necessarily complete (for example, there is no windshield). If you like the details part of a project like this, the seller has left you plenty to address.
