Pair Of Divco Trucks: Scrap Or Projects?

right front

Those of us who are old enough remember the milkman delivering fresh dairy products right to your door early mornings surely remember trucks like these. This pair of old Divco milk trucks, years unknown, is sitting somewhere in a field in Iowa and for sale here on eBay for $2,475. Divco produced this same design from 1939 until 1986 and used several engines, including Continental, Hercules, Nash, Ford and Detroit Diesel engines. DIVCO, or Detroit Industrial Vehicle Company, was founded in 1924. These trucks have become collectable, but is there enough left here to build one truck? The parts are mostly there. The seller is even willing to sell just one or even parts. What could be done with these? My wife suggested one would make a great storage shed and yard art. Could one of these be lightened up enough to build an interesting truck?

Pick the few good parts off of them then scrap them for use in some cheap Chinese after market fender. Not much left to work with at a reasonable $$$.

Milkman delivering milk in those trucks to our neighborhood in South Mpls were a hoot. Milk trucks were an everyday fixture of our lives. Hot summer mornings, they had clear blocks of ice to keep products cold that they would chip off a few chunks for us boys. If only a few of us, would let us ride up and down alleys with him. We would ride down a few blocks into other neighborhood and protect the truck from other boys who would try to steal milk etc from truck. Sometimes good for small cartons of chocolate milk for protecting it. .

Save them! It’s more than worth it, someone like me can restore/fabricate the sheet metal back to new. These trucks are only gaining in popularity.
