Patina Driver: 1962 Chevrolet C10 Pickup

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1962 Chevrolet C10 Pickup is located in Meyerland, Texas which is in the Houston metroplex. The truck and numerous pictures of parts that have yet to be installed can be seen here on Craigslist. The seller is asking $14,500 for the truck and parts.  It is kind of like a puzzle where you are given the pieces and you must put it together.

The truck is said to be rust free except for surface rust or what the seller calls “patina” on the outer surface. There are two interior pictures. One picture shows a stock looking bench seat and aftermarket steering wheel and another picture show the interior with cloth bucket seats from a 2001 GMC 1500 and a stock steering wheel. Most of the other parts mentioned are for the drive train but an under-dash Vintage A/C system is included.

In a couple of places, the ad says that the truck comes with a 5.7 liter 350 cubic inch 4 bolt main engine. Early in the listing of the parts, the ad says it is a 396 cubic inch engine. Power is transferred through a 700 R4 automatic transmission to 3:73 rear end gears from a 1966 truck. Other parts include wheels, tires, carburetor, headers, carpet, mirrors, door seals, etc.

So what would it cost for the labor to put this puzzle together? I love the looks of this truck but prefer short wheelbase because that is what my buddy in high school drove.  Let me know what market is for a solid truck with all the parts to make it into a fun driver.

Well, I’m not as taken with this as I would be with a ‘61 but I wouldn’t turn it away. The 350 is nice but it would have to go in someone else’s truck. The transmission as well. A bone stock 283/Powerglide would be all the get up and go I would ever want. The A-C, well, as long as it wasn’t too bulky. For me this would just be a basic truck with the custom cab, similar to one my uncle had back in the day. The torsion bar front end had a great ride which was never as good with coils. I still begrudge the General for discontinuing it after only three years…

Sure would look good with a coat of paint.

I’m not sure why the patina look is desirable. Would you deliberately add this style of decoration to a 2021 Camaro? Sorry, I want a truck to be functional and look good.

This isn’t the truck for me.

Some people like it and deliberately wrap new vehicles to look like this. I think that’s silly lol. I’d leave the truck like it is for a bit but ultimately paint it. One things for sure I wouldn’t use those new seats. I like it when my girl can sit beside me on a bench.

It’s hard to see someone paying $14,500 even if it was a short bed. Unfinished projects are a hard sell, there are a few questionable/subjective choices which will make it that much harder to find a buyer.

Too much of what has been done to this truck is not to my taste. After selling off what I didn’t want, I’d have to source a new engine and transmission, plus a set of stock wheels and hubcaps. Then it would need body work (to include a new bed floor), paint, and lots of little details.

Seems the seller wants to recoup most, if not all, of his “investment.” I wouldn’t give him twenty percent of what he’s asking.

I like it–but not $14K worth. And if I look
’round hard enough, I know I’d find a running/driving truck for half the price the
seller is asking. That’s what I did when I
bought my Charger. I knew I wanted a big
sedan with little or no car payments so Sis and I looked around til we found the
car we wanted. Drove it home for $6,400
cash too. If I were in the market for a truck, I’d pass this by and keep looking.
    cash too.

Quick look on Craigslist for the Seattle area showed one easily available in similar/better condition at $4500.

$10K left over would get that truck fully finished in paint, interior, drivetrain, etc.

Price seems a trifle exravagant, but you could get some of that back by selling the V8 and getting a correct 6 cylinder + 3 on tree.

Price is nowhere near as crazy as recent VW vans and rust-bucket MoPars…..
