Pickup Conversion: 1967 Volkswagen Squareback

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The owner says that 15  VW Type 3s were “costumed” in California in the ’70’s.  We don’t know what the heck that mean, but we like it!  Have you seen one of these before?  Listed here on craigslist Southern California is this 1967 Volkswagen Type 3 that is no longer “square” and priced at $9,900.

The car runs great, it has recently been painted and upholstered.

There are new tires, a rebuilt engine and transmission.  There are no images of either of these or the underside of the vehicle. If you missed the Volvo pickup we featured earlier this month you may want to pick this one up while you can.

Motor-on,

I have always loved air cooled VW’s but I’m not sure if I like this better than a type 3 before being cut up. I guess if a tree fell on mine this would be a great idea but I wouldnt cut up a good one to make an El squarebarino. It does look to be we done and its in nice shape thgough

I really think this is cool and here in the Midwest you would have the only one at you local cruise. Now is anyone else getting the Chinese symbols in their craigslist ads or is it just me??? I have an APP on my IPAD for Craigslist and I’m not getting them on it just my home PC.

Check the language setting on your Craigslist homepage. Happened to me a couple of weeks ago.

You can try adding “?lang=en” to the craigslist url or change it on the homepage as JW suggested.

Can’t say I like much of the execution on this one. Interior meh, conversion meh, paint choice meh, but any Type III is nice to see!

Looks awkward to me. The bed is just too short. I haven’t gotten Chinese yet.

It appears to be a very unique, innovative, and well executed vehicle!! I wish we could have seen the continuation of the creativity under the bonnet. Also would like to see the under side to see if there was anything structural done to enhance the stability. Definitely different! Different is not always definitely bad! Price is way too high but the market will determine the ultimate price or the seller will continue to own this creation. Just my 1¢ worth.
