If you’ve ever tried to find a Nissan S13 for sale, chances are you soon realized the market for clean, stock examples is very slim. Thanks to their rear wheel drive configuration, cheap parts and ease of accepting modifications, few cars exist like this 1992 240SX notchback with just 2,150 original miles. It may be an automatic, but it is likely one of the best left in existence. Find it here on eBay with bidding over $6K and the reserve unmet.
The 240SX came in both hatchback and coupe flavors, with the notchback-style coupe body being more difficult to find in any condition. The light-weight body combined with the rear-wheel drive layout made the 240SX a sweetheart of a driver’s car, and the limited options from the factory included a limited slip differential – clearly, Nissan had its priorities straight. Given its popularity with young drivers, it’s nothing short of a miracle this one has survived so well.
The biggest gripe against the car to this day was lack of power. While its corporate twins in other parts of the world received turbocharged mills that gave the car a powerplant that matched the sleek body, U.S. market vehicles made do with a derivative of a truck engine, good for about 155 b.h.p. This was a respectable number for the era, but the heavy commercial-grade engine didn’t provide the visceral thrills drivers wanted in a car like the S13.
The car’s condition lives up to the low mileage claims. Seats look untouched, the paint on the body still lustrous and an engine bay you can eat off of. The automatic is a really downer here, and I can practically guarantee the bidding would be through the roof were this car a manual. Transmission swaps are always a possibility, but this car is so pretty and unmolested – well, I would have a hard time tearing it apart for a tranny swap. Would you?
These S-Body Nissans have a cult following, globally.
I see quite a few S-13-15s at the drag strip, as well as in the drifting scene.
Cool cars…
I am continually amazed at the number of ridiculously low mileage cars that exist Stateside. In Australia, with our big distances, people buy cars to drive them! Also, we mostly have year round nice weather, so there’s no need to put cars away during the winter, which often contributes to low mileages.
I am too. I don’t understand why somebody would buy this car and not drive it. What’s not like you’re buying a Ford GT or some Ferrari that you don’t want to put a lot of miles on.
This one is ready for a few too many window stickers , bazooka exhaust, and a subwoofer. Kidding aside this is a beautiful car design , as many know. They have always caught my eye. Japan mfg’s Made some really nice rear wheel drive cars… Supra, starion,
The fellow selling has all positive feedback and its only sitting at 6 grand with one day left. I know the last day of bidding things takes off but this seems darn cheap to me.
your right, better as a manual. also wish it was a hatchback.
Don’t think the market for clean low mileage examples is slim, I think it’s the supply of clean low mileage examples that’s slim…
